This is like a process of de-registering a phone number active on iMessage.

Mr Wiz, 21 Jun 2020First, it's Simple Message Service. Why would I want to... moreI recently lock my phone and have to do a factory reset I forgot my Gmail password and try for days to contact someone from Google and I could never get it on so because I work from home nrr my email contacts backup to my Gmail account I end up losing my job. For a multimillion-dollar company like Google that couldn't afford someone to answer the phone I return call back in this pandemic is Ludacris

Thought most used apps like whatsap.line messenger etc
haven't gotten an SMS in years if it's not spam os some company notification.
don't think most will care much for this

Arlyst, 21 Jun 2020Both people need rcs for it to work and it works over both ... moreThat is part of the issue, compatibility. Sent the message to my Mrs, both on same network. I just don't see a need for it, everyone I know has WhatsApp (though I'm not a fan). The existing solutions are platform agnostic, RCD isn't. Unless Apple adopts it, won't take off for Android. Most other solutions are encrypted, RCS appears not to be, yet. For me, it's 7yrs too late.

Peachy001, 20 Jun 2020I tried it, messages didn't go in a timely fashion. Do they... moreBoth people need rcs for it to work and it works over both mobile data and wifi. It delivers much much faster and defaults back to sms if both people do not have it. If you are seeing slow messages it is either a bad implementation of rcs (due to your carrier likely trying to push their own) or you are mistaking rcs for sms because the other person did not have it on because I can tell you it is incredibly fast unless you are on a very spotty mobile network connection or your WiFi is having issue ..

I tried it, messages didn't go in a timely fashion. Do they go via wi fi? Or mobile network only? For me, it's a waste of time. SMS is fine, and consistent. Have too many apps for the other stuff.

This RCS thing is annoying at times. When I expected to send an SMS, it automatically converted to RCS at the time of sending. And I needed turn off my mobile data and re-type the same message to ensure that it is being sent as SMS.

Google should auto disable RCS if
1, the phone has reported RCS is disabled or not supported
2, it has not seen the phone for more then set amount of days

On the on the sender side its fallback to sms automatically is extremely lacking typically doesn't work, this needs fixing (if the phone hasn't received an RCS message for days, but the Google account is still working on the phone it should warn and switch back to sms automatically)

I have tested it where I switched off RCS on the receiver end and I had to delete the message thread or force it to send as sms from sender phone (or send a message from the receiver phone to make the other phone notice its RCS is disabled)

the RCS system doesn't check that it's been disabled by the other person if your currently in a RCS message thread before (or if the other device isn't receiving RCS any more)

I have dual sim so I leave RCS off because if I have data switched to second sim stops RCS (it doesn't disable it, so it breaks RCS messages until I set data to sim 1 again then I get a flood of messages, I don't understand why that happens or why it needs to happen as RCS also works over wifi)

And the last one is actually the biggest problem with RCS is none of the messages will get backed up as they are stored in a separate place on your phone they are not stored in the SMS library so samsung or Google backup won't backup or restore any RCS messages (currently)
