Anonymous, 28 Jun 2020Xiaomi and decent? It does not exist. If they weren't decent they wouldn't be among the top mobile phone manufacturers in the world even though they have a very limited market presence.

Dometalican, 28 Jun 2020I don't know why people are grilling the Desire. It's $100 ... moreThe problem is that you are comparing the HTC to a phone that is also probably not going to sell well at all. Its almost like comparing the least desirable phones at a given price point.

And even then the HTC comes out pretty badly. First off the HTC runs a pedestrian LCD screen. Nowadays you get decent LCD screens on $160 mobiles so its hardly a big plus point while the Xperia at least has a competent OLED screen which is a more premium screen. Since you use the phone screen a lot the quality of the screen IMO matters a lot so the Xperia is better here.

Then Sony might have a weaker battery but Sony's battery optimisations are excellent so despite the smaller battery you still get a very good battery life on the Xperia and consequently the Xperia is a good 50g lower in weight.

Honestly the Redmi Note 8 is 95% of the HTC Desire 20 pro at less than half the listed price of the HTC while at least in case of the Xperia 10 II you need to look harder to find competent phones with a good AMOLED screen.

Also how come you are still looking at a Huawei phone even now. Its very difficult to live without Google apps and it doesn't look like the Huawei ban is going to be lifted anytime soon.

I don't know why people are grilling the Desire. It's $100 less than the Xperia 10 mark ii for the same chipset. Sure, it doesn't have a telephoto cam or IP rating but it does have a bigger battery, more RAM, and 'technically' the better main cam so it's not ALL bad.

As for the U20...it better be priced at $550 if it wants to contend. The lack of stereo speakers (which is APPALLING coming from HTC) and headphone jack are why I don't care for that phone already.

HTC better have a solid flagship up it's sleeve. Otherwise, I'm waiting for Huawei (in case of a Mate 40X) or Asus for my next phone since this year has absolutely SUCKED for people living in the US.

There is no uncertainty in the fate of these HTC phones, regardless how they are priced: It is a money-losing enterprise.

(Note: There is no life in these designs. These designs don't come from a competent smartphone company, as judged by 2020 standard.)

HTC is definitely worth re-supporting on this one. Very capable chipset for sure. Great battery.

HTC could definitely attract some customers if they opt out for the good old metal body, even if it meant sacrifice of 5G... With its current state, U20 looks like 99% of other glass sandwiches, but it's likely going to cost much more than its equivalents with similar hardware.

HTC should have just kept the bezels and aluminium body atleast it would have been a different phone from the generic glass block.if the u20 used amoled atleast it would have been a serious rival

"HTC U20 5G can be popular if the price is right"

Which it won't be. I mean seriously, they want over 300 bucks for the Snapdragon 665, what are the chances that they'll price the U20 reasonably? DOA.

Both Nokia and Motorola priced their 8.3 5G and Edge respectively at €600. If HTC can price the U20 5G at that same price bracket or lower, then it could be a serious SD765G contender.

Anonymous, 28 Jun 2020The last pun though! True though. The first Desire had at the time high end spec and real good looks to make it desirable, while these two don't add much to the current landscape of phones - unless they'll be priced desirably low.
