Mediatek sux, 28 Jun 2020How did you avoid the import taxes?I dont.
My hardware vendor has the required import licenses and I pay all the taxes whenever I get electronics shipped. Even then I save a substantial amount since local retailers heap massive markups over GST (previously VAT) and imports+shipping.

If I'm having managable sized items brought over by friends or family, as long as you don't bring in 5+ GPUs or something, you dont get shafted and harassed by customs agents.

Talking about TVs, until a few years ago some of the big manufacturers were honouring warranty terms for TVs purchased in Dubai/gulf region for cheaper and shipped/bought to India. But the local retailer lobby, in their endless greed, strong armed the companies and made the government apply pressure to make Samsung et al. pull global warranty from India.

So...we aren't lucky at all here like that poster suggests.

55" is too small for my room setting. 65" at least. But I'm seeing forward to see the image quality. To my opinion LCD is dead in term of technology. Wide-color gamut and local dimming is the only feature that premium LCD can offer. microLED should come in mass as technology leap.

In India, most successful brands play the 'high volume, low profit margin per device' game. So even when the product is affordable to consumer, the company earns good profit due to high sales. Now compare this to a brand like Sony Mobile, which has a high profit margin but their sales are low, they have to exit because no one wants to buy their phone. High profit margin are good news when you're an investor, but for consumers, especially in India, you appear nothing more than looters.

The only things cheap over here are some Chinese phone and TV brands. Everything else is marked up at a 30%~300% premium. This country has some of the highest consumer tax rates in the world for "premium" items. And the definition list of premium keeps increasing every year and so do the tax rates.

Trust me, I build workstation systems and use them to run my own company. I save around 10,00,000 INR (~13,000 USD) just by getting my electronics purchased and shipped/brought from US or Singapore. Don't look at a few Chinese products and think prices are great in India.
