While it may reduce electric waste it will have costs/waste in other fashions. For example separate packing for the charging brick and all the resources involved with shipping (fuel, additional packing to ship the chargers in,etc.) said charger to either retail locations or direct to customers. If they truly wanted to reduce waste they could sell an iphone at a discount that is just the phone with no accessories for those that want to continue using their current charger/ headphones or a bundle that includes all accessories for an added premium for those that need new gear with their iphone.
They could even offer a recycling program of old accessories where you trade in your old charger/headphones for a small discount on your next purchase.
Again that's IF their true concern was to reduce waste and not to just take advantage of people.

I just bought a Lenovo tablet and it came with neither a charger nor the earbuds.
Really those things are accessories nowadays.

Imagine if you are switching from Android to Apple and you have no previous chargers left to plug in immediately after you receive the phone. You have to wait for another two or 3 days for the charger to arrive or in that case book a charger before booking the mobile. This is just just a marketing strategy. For the price of phone its not too much to include 30-50$ in box. They just try to milk the customers.

I know people who defend the poor battery life of iPhones with "I don't need more battery life. What I have is just right".
I think this is a good move. However, what is not is Apple using this to increase their margins than passing the benefits on to consumers. At what point do Apple and its infested investors ever say this is where we draw the line...

Regular Note 9 might have display touch delay issues. Not sure about burn-in.
