naturally. with samsung's exit from China, those copy-cat companies are not able to get the blueprints to the latest designs, which used to save them r&d costs. not at all a surprise. now they have to rely on corporate espionage which takes time.

I wish they'd abandon front facing cameras entirely, at least on flagship phones. The best solution to take high quality selfies is to use the rear camera so having a small screen on the back to assist with that is all that's needed.

Maybe someday even manual hw slider to cover those spying cameras. In that sense is pop up camera the upgrade over any other.

We hope for qHD, Stereo Speakers and REAL HARDWARE volume buttons!! Is is too much ? Because it lacked in mate30pro and was present in mate20pro! Went backwards ???

Underdisplay camera is the worst gimmick ever created, no one with the slightest glimps of intelligence would considering using an expensive high quality camera through an opaque surface.
The more this tech appearance in the market, the better, as despite its stupid concept and its lack of quality and all the other downsides including lack of privacy, but even worse as it give an illusion of privacy, when it will release it will prevent more sensitive solutions like bezel or smarter one like pop up to be available.
The concept is so stupid that despite years of RnD and millions spent on that, there isn't a prototype worthy of being mass produced done yet, it should give the hint to any clever peoples that this tech is a nightmare...
Also I love how the guy who wrote the article instantly concluded that if it doesn't have this tech, then it must have notch or punch hole, aka the worse things even made along with curved edge display and underdisplay camera...
And that despite the majority of peoples in polls hating notches and punch holes.
I mean, the punch hole is so bad that when simply doubling it it is considered by almost everyone as the worse possible thing, even the infamous curved edge display doesn't receive that much hate when its curve angle is doubled, that tell you a lot about how bad the punch hole really is...
C'mon, just put a bezel or a pop up already, notches and punch holes are already everywhere, we need alternatives, not just another phone exactly like the rest...
Also Huawei recent phones sport 3D facial recognition, it would be a SHAME to remove this rare feature just for a stupid camera concept.
Alternatively, there is two concept design for the Mate 40 that are quite interesting, like this one where the front sensors protrude like a shrunk down bezel :

I don't care though, i always take function over form. I would rather have an punch hole/notch/forehead with very gpod selfie cameras rather than an moving parts or under display camera with bad selfie

Whoever claimed it to have an underdisplay camera should have known better. There aren't even any public prototypes, only vague "leaked" or inscenated videos (all with low video quality).
Whoever claims something like this is a quick grab for attention.
