Apple patents a way to make buttons thinner while providing programmable feedback

30 June 2020
The moving part in the new mechanism travels only 10 microns, but is capable of sensing pressure as well as providing "clicky" feedback.

Also no reviewer is talking about force touch now or at least since it was removed from iPhones, especially any "benefits" people like you think they had.

Don’t know what’s taking them so long to get rid of all buttons and use sensors at least that would increase the water Rez capability thus enabling phones last long under h20. Even the wireless chargi should be the only option which will enable ppl lay off their phones little and get a job so they stop complaining how expensive iPhones are.

JDK, 01 Jul 2020yeah but you have to turn on the phone for that as well. ... moreno bro, both my p30 pro and s10+ unlock by just picking the phone up and touching the OSD fingerprint icon.

      exceptions:
      1. when s10+ decides to periodically require a passcode for higher protection, u need to wake the display with the hw button (it also hides the OSD icon but i'm not looking at that icon anymore so for me the phone just inexplicably does nothing -- this is poor user-experience (UX) design from Samsung which there's plenty of).
      2. the under-screen fingerprint scanners don't work half the time (too wet finger, too dry finger, greasy finger)

but apple isn't better bc to raise your sunglasses u need both hands - the other is holding the phone, and/or it's just awkward. both face and finger method should be present.

(my original post got deleted, LOL)

JDK, 01 Jul 2020LOL you don't know the facts. Where is the evidence... moreFace ID already f**led by twin.
        Can't detect properly with mask.
Another half baked feature dished out just like the latest widgets.

Fingerprint is far more secure and works with mask, works with wet hands, works instantly.
Apple just forcing users to use face ID. God knows where they'll integrate that data with and whom they'll sell to for more profits.

        Apple is far from secure.
Majority of their operations are based in China.
They exploit cheap labor there and sell phones at high price.
If you are based in China, you make a deal with Government for data. That's how they pay 0% taxes.

Keep believing that if it's expensive, it must be good.

So is it somewhat the same like in htc u12+??

[deleted post]yeah but you have to turn on the phone for that as well.

By the time you lifted your sunglasses to show your eyes your phone would have unlocked, meanwhile you have to spend the time to find the power button then easily find the fingerprint icon. Yet that takes more time.

If you want fingerprint to be comparable to Face ID then you need to put your finger on the spot before you have to reach for the power button.

Where is the evidence that face ID is fooled by a twin? Do YOU have a twin? And do you have an iPhone 11 series phone? If no, then you can't be talking.

By the time you are looking for that fingerprint area you would have already raised your sunglasses up. It's the same thing: One action. And the times that you don't wear sunglasses, iPhones are both faster and more secure. And, reviewers have the phone for an entire 2 weeks, sir, cause they get review units before launch. If you can't get accustomed to the fingerprint position for the first 2 weeks, then how long will you? A month? lol.

Apple gives cloud keys to china? More fake news, dude. Before you post these things, you should be reading actual credible sources and checking your facts. Too much in a hurry to respond with your fanboi comments? Not my fault.

Who said you needed to buy the top end $1500 version of the iPhone 11 pro max? The iPhone 11 is the better seller cause people don't want to pay $750 for a better display and extra storage they don't need. Simple.

Meanwhile, your talking only is helping iPHone sales. So keep it up!

After one uses the device for first couple of days, one knows exactly where to place their fingers.
Only people who suffer from that problem are reviewers who change their phone every week.
Besides, It's a tiny area of a few Sq.cm not the fckng everglades.

Face ID is easily fooled by your twin. Works terrible with a mask and all one has to do is place it in front of your face and steal the phone away.

All the data is stored on less than secure servers.
Apple already gave cloud keys to China for more profits.

How does it feel using 1500$ junk which is made from the cheapest materials so that company continues to make unreasonable profits?

Apple would never do that; Rather, you want that to happen in Android since Android's phone designs in particular takes the worst in Apple. The button will be included in the new design of Apple iPhone, maybe iPhone 14 or 15.
