This scheme by Apple is a scam. Why not let all repair places regardless of registration purchase spare items? We live in a world of Google Reviews and free markets I am sure consumers will choose what is right for them in terms of quality of repair. Also these items aren't that important so even if there are shoddy repairs it would not be the worst thing in the world.

To identify some damage they need to check all the A,B,C,D components. Sometimes that can creating additional damage caused by Apple themselves.
Some reporter tried to fix his blank mac LCD on Apple store, they explained every possible problems A,B,C,D that worth of 2k! replacement parts. When he took it to some independent repair it was just a bent pin on the LCD socket, with a little effort he fixed the mac. Free of charge, but $50 if for ribbon relacement. While Apple could charge him 2k for unnecessary parts.

I bet those independent technicians are far more capable than Apple's. They charge far lower for the same repair too.
