You can buy 20 Walmart bikes for the price of one Specialized bike, that doesn't make them a competitor. Different markets.

LG Superfan, 10 Jul 2020Again why would I pay $200 for a smartwatch when I can get ... moreHere's why it's more expensive compared to regular cheap smartwatches:

        - In GPS mode lasts full day while majority of AMOLED smart watches only last a few hours so unusable for long hikes. In expedition mode even several weeks.
        - sensors on the watch: altimeter, barometer, digital compass, multiple GPS sensors
        - no need to have phone connectivity to run GPS activity tracking
        - screen readable in direct full sunlight and lower battery consumption
        - Durability: weather, dust proof (military standard 810G I believe here)

I don't know about ANT+ though. And as for reliability even low end chinese products are of good enough quality now a days so I am expecting years of working
For a casual person these watches offer more than enough

What about the longevity and reliability? My Garmin is still perfectly usable 4 years later, can you show me a Chinese watch from 2016 that you'd recommend for buying even in 2020?

Also riding 5 km on a Walmart bike isn't really the kind of cycling that needs specialized equipment like Garmin watches.

LG Superfan, 09 Jul 2020Why would I want a $800 smartwatch ? You can get a good chi... moreGarmin do have $200 watches that still give you a weeks battery in smart watch mode or 15 hours in GPS mode. Yes the GPS is built in so you dont have to carry a phone. The heart rate is per second unlike once per 5 min on Apple Watches. The screen is not as vibrant as smartphone screens but its always on and clearly visible in direct sunlight. This particular watch has non-color display to give ridiculous unlimited battery life. Advanced calculations such as V02max, Aerobic levels, Anaerobic level, Training Load, Cadence, Respiration, etc are also available. Take a look at the Vivoactive 3/4 for a more mainstream watch by Garmin.

They are built to provide sports features with enduring battery life. Depending on the model you can do GPS activities up to 60 hours or even 80 days under some limiting conditions. They don't have funky features that will bother you during your activity, and they're fairly stable. I did a two days hike with a Fenix 6X Pro following stupid routes and hurt my leg, so I had to return. However, Garmin still had more power when I reached home. :D These are not for everyone, they are puspose build and if they don't match your purpose just avoid...

Look at any triathlete or cyclist or marathon runner and you'll see them wearing a Garmin. Try cycling for 8 hours with an Apple watch or Wear watch or the $30 Chinese watch you've mentioned.

These watches are indestructible, plus they have no planned obsolescence, my 2016 Fenix 3 HR Sapphire is still great, its features rock even today and the battery life has degraded by 10% at worst.

Why would I want a $800 smartwatch ? You can get a good chinese watches for like $30 of course you will lack 3rd party app support but for most things it works quite good, the only thing missing on most is calling feature you can't directly take or make calls with it
