The OnePlus Nord will have a 105° ultra wide selfie camera

13 July 2020
You don't need to use a selfie stick to fit your whole group of friends when you're using the ultra wide cam on the front.

JDK, 15 Jul 2020Of course americans aren't the whole world. But for th... moreWell again, Americans can't be considered as a majority if you talk about peoples in the USA, but it can be consider as a significative number if you talk about the continent(s).

Flagship killer and Flagship doesn't really have a hard limit splinting them from each others, mainly now that OnePlus doesn't do Flagship killers anymore.
And I should have been more specific and refer to Flagship SoC (SD865) vs midrange SoC (SD765x).
Also, less than 500$ probably mean really close to 500, I wouldn't even be surprised if it is 499, and between the price the brand tell, and the price from the shop after being sold from factory to the seller, potentially passing through one or more wholesellers hands, add all the shipping cost and the taxes that most countries have, and you probably have a 500 or more priced device.

It is still representative, it is THE most hated thing, single punch hole is already hated and for good reasons, it is totally stupid and has caused only issues and doesn't have a single real advantage and is completely invasive.
The Punch Hole appeared as a need to get rid of the notch, meaning minimizing the size of unused space on the display, which itself is simply an attempt to put as many sensors as possible in the front of the phone while removing statut bar from the top of the display.
And when I say as many sensors as possible I talk mainly about 3D facial recognition.
Punch hole and Notches caused ALL sensors but the camera to disappear and got moved under the display (ambiant light and proximity sensors) which make them less effective and costlier, all that to leave only a non essential front camera and try to get as close as possible to fullscreen.
So, do you see the irony at trying to put a second camera on a second hole ?

Pop up (for privacy) & No front camera > Bezel > Notches with 3D facial recognition sensors >>>> Small notches with only a camera >> Punch hole >>>> dual Punch Hole >>>> Underdisplay camera.

AnonD-909757, 15 Jul 2020*The Americans aren't the whole world, plus is it that... moreOf course americans aren't the whole world. But for the americans IN the world, they would rather buy oneplus nord than vivo Z1x. So it's not like people should ALWAYS buy the Z1x over the nord. Not always.

$500 is the entry price of flagships? Well, no. $500 is the entry price of flagship killers. $700 is the entry price for flagships. Remember? Oneplus nord is not $500 bucks.

How can you tell that a huge quantity of people hate the double punch hole? Although I don't like it, all the people who don't care don't post. So looking at the comments gives that kind of illusion: your only looking at a set of people on one specific site that isn't very widespread.

And thanks for telling me that they showed off their box like that.

Yaaaay a bigger hole in the display... just what I and everyone else wanted...

JDK, 14 Jul 2020Facts: What about vivo Z1x virtually doesn't exist in ... more*The Americans aren't the whole world, plus is it that hard to buy a phone oversee or outside mobile carriers ?
And well, if carriers don't have it, it is simply because it doesn't have the US bands, which is a highly capitalism thing, so, yeah, you can't really complain here...

Yeah, THEIR price, wait until shipment and multiple sellers got there and need to make their margin...

The punch hole itself is already a really bad and stupid thing, bezel should be the norm and pop up camera the second preferred choice and those holes/notches and other stupidities should be rare occurrences, a huge quantity of peoples already hate the standard punch hole, but the double one is even worse.

They showed in their video that the box is strong enough so that we can step on it, actually two persons at once.

Still, 500 is entry price of Flagships and the extreme top price of midranger, even 400 isn't that cheap for a midranger.

Facts: And oneplus nord is not $500 dollars. It's under $500.
Facts: Only the people that really care about dual punch holes actually speak up about how bad it is. People that don't care don't post.
Facts: Oneplus never said a thing about "stepping on packaging".
Facts: Before you jump to conclusions that oneplus was merely saving money by using dual punch hole, think again. They may have, they may not. We will never know.

Not like I disagree with your claim. I do feel like oneplus should have used a better chipset. And I hope that they price it $400 or less.

Akira Kurou, 14 Jul 2020There are still a lot of people who take selfies and make v... moreI upvoted for the preference of the bezel and pop up over notches and punch holes.

But still, it isn't because a part of the user do use it, that all those who actually prefer not having it should be forgotten.
The issue is that there is NO smartphone (of known brand and with decent hardware) without front camera, I am not talking about removing it from all the phone, but damn, none ?
And there are solutions, like this :
              https://img.xda-cdn.com/3n9xMJU98EooVyCuoI3NuZrDviE=/http%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FpRxlo.jpg
We could easily make this integrated to the back of the phone or the case, in a foldable way, it would be cheap, easy and cheap to replace, easy to use, won't cause holes, notches or underdisplay camera idiocy, will respect privacy and rather than a tiny little camera, the much better main camera would do a better job.

Also, privacy is THE most important thing when it come to modern tech, and this is what we should all consider over ease of use (as selfie are totally faisable without front cam) and social medias.

I was quite excited about a new oneplus "z", a smaller, more classe version like the one back then was. It's sad they created just another oneplus 8 with 765 instead of an 865. I know Im a niche customer, but I would gladly buy a oneplus EVERY year if it was 5,5", 765 (5G), dual rear cam, single (or no) front cam, max 400$. I know it is possible, I know there would be customers buying it. I'm fed up of all those 6,4"- 7" phones with outstanding cameras that are well suited for most people, but not for all.

fed up with these kinda silly promotions, oneplus has lost their motive.

Well this looks interesting since I do take a lot of wefie with my friends and also do live streaming for my mobile gaming session. Not many phones have an ultrawide front camera. Even LG and Google dropped it after the V50 and Pixel 3/3XL respectively.

A 105 degree camera has a LOT of perspective distortion so people at the edges of your photo will not be happy. It's only useful when the distortion is for a visual effect.

So yeah, the selfie camera is a pretty big deal and it is not going away for sure.
But having a notch and a punch hole on a phone to me just looks ugly. I actually prefer having a top and down bezels like the xperias and pixels or pop-up selfies like the one they had on the OP7 Pro and Mi 9T. That fullscreen looks gorgeous, it is kinda shame that OP ditch the pop-up on their 8th gen.

Samsung is already trying to cement the headphone jack as a low-end feature by excluding it on all of their flagships, so I'm hoping they'll do another stupid move and try to cement front cameras as a premium spec.

zipzap, 14 Jul 2020That sounds like a you problem. not being able to make a v... moreI would LOVE for a Smartphone without any front camera, it would solve both privacy and fake fulldisplay from notch/hole issues.
Add interesting sensors on the back, like a ToF that both is used as depth sensor AND while flipping the phone as a 3D facial recognition sensor, and I buy this phone instantly !
Even if it cost more than the version who have front camera.
The only other thing I would like as much would be a phone with a pop up (Vivo V17 Pro style/size) with 3D facial recognition sensors.

And actually many peoples would love to have a phone without front camera.

For the main (back) it is different, unlike this guy I would like some advanced setup, some peoples don't care and would be happy with a single basic camera but some other really love taking pictures and having some good hardware.
Personally I would love something like the IMX 689 or IMX 700 because of the autofocus tech, plus a 18MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom, a 12MP macro or even better a 18MP telemacro, a 12MP portrait with a long focal length which improve faces a lot, and a 12MP ToF depth sensor used both for software/AI and 3D Facial Recognition.

I NEVER do video call, so much peoples don't and there are computers for that anyway, and I don't need any display to make selfies, back in the days when we had films camera without display and limited number of pics, we were able to make beautiful self portrait, now we gave it a stupid name and the simplest skill of aiming is lost.
So yeah the majority maybe, but a big number still would love such a phone, I did read quite often (elsewhere than GSM Arena) peoples in the comments saying to just get rid of the front camera rather than putting a stupid notch/hole.

might be 10-50 USD cheaper sure
but the majority of buyers would prefer a phone whit a selfie cam

                                  So so so...!!!

What is going on with all the attention of a mediocre phone?
Nothing's new, nothing worth mentioning, nothing to justify the price they ask for the phone.
Their marketing machine is surely working hard at the moment to pour money to all the tech blog to write about their run off the mill phone.
