Here's why current WP phones won't get Windows Phone 8

WP8 is closer to the desktop Windows 8 RT than it is to the Windows Mobile-related WP7.

Behold Android Armies!!! Microsoft will eat you alive when Windows 8 Mobile and Windows Surface Release... It's the best thing that ever happened in Technology.
The giant made a huge breakthrough by being aligned on the game... Tablets and phone syncing with each other to create a better user experience..., personally and professionally...
I am an iPhone and iPad user and very much happy with how this 2 integrate with each other....
Microsoft will get a slice of Android users and not iOS because of its native apps...
Next year! iPad Pro(Mac OS in beautiful Retina, i7 quad core processor...)

        What are some people on drugs or something ?

        ICS is on 1.5 year old devices ..even older devices thanks to custom ROMs.

        Official ICS is on Xperia line on very modest phones with 3.0 inch screens, and 3.5 and so on.
        You can get ICS on phones that cost 150 euro or phones that cost 500 euro.
        Also next time someone sais quad cores are nt supported they need ot show proof of the claim. Lats time i check quad cores were used perfectly fine in ICS as shown by the nVidia glass pinball demo. Each core does something..one gets textures, one make the phisics, one controls input and sound tc..look it up on youtube you can see all 4 cores are utilized.
        Also when you play a hd movie, and receive a call you switch between the movie and call ultra fast, then can go into galery or whereever and edit a picture as you talk on the phone as the movie is paused in the background as the phone is downloading stuff in the web browser...
        Get it ? Real multitasking that is super fast.
        Get with the times people.

          The major fail of Microsoft was that they were desperately trying to modernize the ancient and full of restrictions Win Ce kernel for the Lumias, instead of working on the Nt core based Win when Android was still experimental Os. Now Android is the best open source Os with basicly no restrictions and iOS on the othet hand is the best closed source Os with greatly optimised software... And between them Wp7 looks like absolute failure because its outdated core and tens of dumb restrictions. Wp 8 will not bring revolutionary improvements, it will just fill the horrible holes of Win 7.

            Hear that? That's Windows phone sales coming to a halt. Why on earth would you purchase something like the Lumia 900 if you know that in 6 months your OS will not be the most current one and your device is non upgradable? I know to some this is not a big deal but to others, it is. And to those that it is, they will purchase iOS or Android.

Not one phone has had a major upgrade from Windows mobile 5 onwards and posibly even earlier thn that. The excuses vary and true this one is more valid than most. However, when the best excuse they could come up with not to upgrade the HTC HD2 from 6.1 to 7 is because it has 5 buttons instead of three on front panel you know they are just desparate to find excuses. For heavens sake they could not even manage to upgrade most phones from 6.1 to 6.5 and the hardware requirements were identical!

                    Some top rated comments are weird or are just plain trolling!

                    If Microsoft and its Windows 8 would kill all competition (Google/Apple) then we can all welcome one and only leader Steve to give us best consumer products for lowest prices possible (no vendor lock-in included, and that's a promise!). :P

                    If you've read the news you would understand that WP7 is based on Win CE core (Win Mobile) while WP8 is based on Win NT core (Win 2000+) and those two are totally different kernel cores with different capabilities. Will see how this wil pan out in the future!

                    I wish you all best with your grown up WP8 phone, while we kids play with our toy iOS and Android phones with Exchange, ActiveSync, GMail, GDocs, GCalendar, Tasker, and all other "toy" technologies.

                    On another note, like I said it many times before, I wish that Microsoft's mobile market share would be the same as Linux's desktop market share (5%!).

                      Most of the people here bought a Lumia Phone in the past months or weeks and then they found out last week that their phone are obsolete...

                            its not about dual core os microsd slot.
                            u won't be able to run metro/C++ apps they only run on wp8

                            no one in their right mind will code for a dead platform with less 8m users. so most apps will be wp8 only

                              why all the whining!
                              this is a trend thats seen everywhere!!!
                              i work in an environment where we use a huge number of linux clusters and every once in a while the vendors comes and says, you have to upgrade to a new version of linux as the old version isnt supported any longer (RHLE)
                              in the same manner when we request to upgrade to a newer version of RHLE to meet application requirement, the vendor (OEM) comes back and says, your current equipment cant be updated to the required RHLE version due to HW incompatibilties!


                              i saw that in Apple/samsung bada/and also in andriod!

                              can you install ICS on older devices???

                                WP Suck. it will not survive against Andriod because they stab their loyal users in the back everytime they bring out a new OS. Only so much treachery can be stomached before moving on to something better

                                  My old E55 is at least 2 years old; and runs Symbian 9 (pre-anna version).

                                  Regardless, I have all the apps I need (including turn-by-turn navigation from Nokia and GoogleMaps) regularly email from my phone,
                                  including viewing and editing MS office docs,
                                  browse the net (with full flash support),
                                  play games,
                                  keep calender events,
                                  zip files, read PDFs, cleanup files

                                  ...and basically everything I need to do on my phone.

                                  And here we have people thinking a WP 7.5 to 8 is the end of the world!

                                        Here is my fear for the new Window Phone 8.....The actual phone might only last a few hours b4 the battery went dead....Should I worry about it??
