Aaa, 02 Aug 2020Lol no I've never heard of that problem with the M3... more@Anonymous Sony fan boy/girl, @Aaa - there are *many* reports of headband cracking on the XM3, though it is a tiny bit less that the previous two generations (nowhere close to where it should be for $350). There are absolutely no such issues - not a single report - for similarly priced competing models from Bose, Sennheiser, B&W and Shure. This has nothing to do with users handling or head dimensions and all to do with Sony's shoddy build quality. They created a market leading product with the XM3 but completely ignored longevity and build. This is the main thing they should fix.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2020They are not going to give aptx when they had own LDAC.
S... moreWell, your points are well made. However, the thing is even the XM3s had both LDAC and aptX support. Sony ditched the Qualcomm chip, in favor of the cheaper Mediatek one. The irony is it's the same QN1 chip as before, and the Mediatek chip powering the XM4s has a quarter of the power draw of the Qualcomm processor in the XM3s; so, the battery life is supposed to be much higher, at least on paper. Also, aptX LL is primarily for low latency, aptX Adaptive addresses both lower bit rates and audio quality - the best of both worlds! What's more, the XM3s already had class-leading ANC, so any claims of even better ANC is likely market gimmick. So, the XM4s are in fact a downgrade, if u delve into the details.

Anonymous, 02 Aug 2020They are not going to give aptx when they had own LDAC. S... moreAptX is for low latency, battery life I would not go there mate - Sony claims are incredibly far of the real battery life, their estimates are made with AAC if I am not mistaken, not with LDAC .. and even those AAC claims are off by a big margin.

Stronger ANC = less battery life.
Other simpler models have 35h endurance.
Competition does not even offer these 30h.

The only real question - does the headband still crack? This issue plagued the previous three generations (yes, including the XM3) and is a complete deal breaker as far as I'm concerned. Other than this issue, the XM3 were already close to perfect. I'd buy them in a heartbeat if build quality was up to snuff.

Bose 700, 02 Aug 2020i end up getting the bose 700
as it has multi connection ... moreI’d be careful about getting the Bose700. I bought it when they first offered it. They claim that the batteries are good for 20 hrs, but the best I ever gor on a charge is 15.5 hrs or 80%.
I am extremely unhappy with the Bose. If the Sony isn’t perfect I’ll still give it a shot and give my Bose to someone I don’t like. :-) (Just sayin’)

So far nothing seems good enough to upgrade from my current M3!
Truly I was expecting much more from M4 such as improved design, and at least BT 5, multi device connect, and much better mic because the current mic in M3 is extremely bad.
It seems I'm skipping M4 and wil wait for M5.

So, after 2 years, this is all Sony could muster? They had the XM4s ready more than a year ago, but kept delaying and delaying it endlessly, so that they could milk more money outta the XM3s. Battery life's still 30 hours after 2 years! Same old QN1 chip. Really, Sony? And the biggest thing, wait for it - NO APTX support, which even the good ol XM3s had. Folks may have differing views, but to my mind this is a MAJOR downgrade. The codec choice on this premium, "flagship" set of wireless cans is pretty limited. As for me, I'll only buy when they come with AptX Adaptive and Bluetooth 5.2, which is a game-changer, and offer a minimum of 40 hrs battery life!
