Google and it's apps are banned in China(the irony with TikTok) but Google Mobile Services (GMS) is not. Why not ? Because Chinese companies haven't been able to make its alternative till now.
HMS( Huawei) is a copy of GMS after Google stopped providing its services to only Huawei( because of US IP theft sanctions) but, all the other Chinese vendors still use GMS.
Think about it, Apple also sells iPhones in China, they still use iOS, probably with some restrictions, but not a completely different china-specific OS.
Making the UI is easy, like OxygenOS is just a UI with 2-3 extra features on top of the Android kernel and Google Play services.
As of 2020, if someone has actually seen it working, HMS doesn't even compare to GMS, because making that stuff is hard. But, in 3-4 years, with its vast resources, Huawei will probably reverse-engineer the GMS to a great extent. Let's see how it goes...

Oxygen OS & Hydrogen OS are old news.
I am waiting for Nitrogen OS.

as long as its Android based it's not so that hard to adapt. samsung tried to make an Android competitor with Bada, and Tizen, it's all failed because not android. i'm actually want to see another ecosystem other than Android and iOS, it's shame microsoft can't maintain Windows Phone

Always On Display is really not my biggest priority for my OnePlus phone. OnePlus should focus on:
a. fixing the bug that prevents Wear OS watches keeping connected.
b. Adding a one-handed mode. It's ridiculous not to have one on a phone with such huge screen.

That is why China has its own equivalent of banned sites. Baidu is China's Google, Weibo is China's Facebook, WeChat is China's WhatsApp and Youko is China's YouTube.

GMS (... moreI'm still rocking my trusty Windows Phone device to this day in the shape of a Nokia Lumia 830 and a Microsoft Lumia 950. From the day I'm leaving Android for that mobile OS as my daily driver, I only treat Android as a mobile entertainment tool at home. No more daily communication (E.g. calls, SMS, email) on an Android phone.

I want a compact OnePlus phone that will compete iPhone SE 2020 and Google Pixel 3a. Just put 1 rear camera with OIS.

Waiting to see more rivals of :
1. IOS (Apple)
2. GMS (Google)
3. AOSP (Google)
4. Android One (Google)
5. HMS (Huawei)
More options and competitions is good for both customers and companies. It drives companies to improve and work harder and gives customers more options.
What i was impressed by is Huawei's HMS. When they launch it with the Mate 30 series, it has very little apps. But just 6 months later with the P40 series and Petal search has made ot possible to live without GMS. The only thing Huawei needs to do is :
1. Make apps in the app gallery (more)
2. Make your own maps
3. Make it possible to make in app purchase
4. Keep promoting it and it will be ready soon!
Every brands need to make their own system softwares. As if Google cut ties with them, they are fully prepared. Huawei is just caught off guard that's why it is bad, but now it is improved very very very significantly.
