Samsung may be looking to acquire a stake in ARM

03 August 2020
Nvidia was said to be in "advanced talks", but it's not clear if the GPU maker can afford the asking price and whether regulators will allow such a deal.

MrDong, 04 Aug 2020Their fault for using cheap architecture. Don't blame ... moreNo. S810 had major throttling issues. Qualcomm always used arm.
Samsung is not ditching exynos. Galaxy s1-s8 exynos was superior.
It's not as simple as poor architecture or code. It's because samsung switched to not just custom cores, which their regular custom cores were way more powerful and efficient than Qualcomm, but to large custom cores. And it was their first time doing and they had to do it from the ground up.

Even apple struggled 2 or 3 years with high power drain and heavy throttle when they first switched to large cores. They got good bench scores but actual peak performance was throttled a lot for heat and power management.
The end result will be more powerful processor. But you have to go through some design and efficiency hurdles to get there in a mobile soc. Large cores are more power hungry.
But the dimwitts at samsung that also probably forced them into chasing bench numbers over efficiency don't understand logic and closed the entire custom core division. And that is the only thing that made it a waste of time and money.
Now the next couple next generations of cores that were going to see the results of the past couple years of work are never going to see the light of day.

But even just slightly modified exynos cores will at least equal if not better than snapdragon ones.
And as far as gpu the mali g77 gpu is very powerful. Unfortunately samsung chose a poor set up and on top of the heat management of the cpu has to throttle quickly.

Snapdragon 821 also had a throttling issue (as well as other SD chipsets with code MSM) until it switched to ARM architecture with code SDM from Snapdragon 835.

I agree on the monopoly thing though, it's not beneficial.

I think until Sammy can fix the inferior chips they should cut the price on Exynos versions of the phones.

Although I might be moving to Apple now. I loved the Note 20 Ultra but I'm not going to pay for an inferior product for the same price. I wanted a Mate 40 Pro but they made another huge selfie pill cam:)

So maybe Apple for me this year or I will wait for 2021 to see which phones come out.

But it's ARM that saved Apple multiple times and prevented it from going under, also many times. And to be fair to Apple, it ensures that the Apple A chip architecture has cache advantages over its regular ARM chip designs. Making it much faster than Android.
