nick, 07 Aug 2020who told u no brand do cover water damage ? u understand ... moreI simply looked at the warranty page and conditions of most of the biggest (and I never heard of any covering it), IP rating is nothing but a number to be put to impress those with no clues about that.

Only a handful of devices are tested, the test doesn't require to be repeatable, it is done in lab conditions (and I think only with tap water, so no salt damage is considered), from brand new phones that haven't gotten into any real life scenario before, like different temperatures, pressures and other dust and air contaminants.
So the IP rating can't guarantee that every phones out of the factory are indeed water resistant, which by a matter of fact, not all are, as many do die under conditions that IP68 certification supposedly guaranteed the phone would survive.

That it is international or not, it doesn't change that it is anything but useless, it is a scam almost at the level of ink cartridges as it cost millions to certify a device and it doesn't change anything in the end result.

A phone like the OnePlus 7(t) Pro with his pop up and no IP rating, but enough build quality to survive accidental drop in water, will suffer way less phones damaged or killed by water than any IP67/68 rated phones, simply because the user isn't under the illusion to have a submarine and do handle it with care when it come to water, so even though in a contest where 1000 OnePlus 7(t) Pro and Mi 9T (pro) VS 1000 IP68 rated phones, the IP68 phones would show a way greater survival result in water, because of how the user is tricked to think the phones is waterproof (while IP rating is just an indication of water resistance, not waterproof), and how the owner of a phone with pop up known that his phone isn't perfect at handling water, the reality make that more IP rated phones do die.
Meaning IP rating actually have a negative effect.

Furthermore, IP rating standard was never made to certify things like smartphones, it is more about things like outdoor IP camera being able to survive the elements, or speaker designed for the shower surviving splash and shower head jet, etc.

If you want a standard which do at least work a little, the MILSPEC (MIL-STD-810) do prove way better that your phone is though than the IP prove your phone is water resistant.

Anonymous, 04 Aug 2020Notch is the worst followed up pop up and you lose waterpro... moreExcept that the OnePlus 7(t) Pro proved that a phone with a pop ups can survive accidental immersion, and if you talk about the "IP" certification, it is near useless as phones with it keep dying regularity in water, NO BRAND do cover water damages and many goes as far as putting water damage stickers inside the phones because they gain quite a lot of money by not replacing ALL the IP67/68 certified phones that do die.

Different pop ups designs are possible, by using magnets and electromagnets rather than the electric motor, we can make a totally sealed off pop up that is actually waterproof, and not water resistant, because IP certification ISN'T waterproof, it is water resistance, which is a huge difference.

Pop ups allow for TRUE fulldisplay, and not the stupid idea of archiving fulldisplay by removing a part of the display.

And most importantly, pop ups allow for PRIVACY, which is way more important than any design or waterproof things :
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hjspu7QV7O0
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcSlowAhvUk

Pop up is actually the best solution for having a front camera, the only better solution is to simply remove the front camera entirely and use other tricks to allow selfies and video calls, like a 2*90° mirror addon on a second display on the back.

To me it feel like the dual punch hole have been invented to push everyone who prefer the single one over smarter and better solutions like slim bezel, pop up or no front cam at all, basically being "you wanted the hole, you got the hole, and a second one for free".
If the punch hole was that great, how just adding a second one be that bad ?

Wake up peoples, notches and punch holes are the worse trend in modern smartphones, and there are tons of bad trends, like curved edge display, removal of the Jack, 2MP or even worse at 0.5MP depth camera, 2MP macro camera, etc...

Huawei's latest OS update DCed my split screen and their calendar app lacks the ability to send email reminders. Honestly, until Huawei hires some competent coders, their hardware is irrelevant. And what is up with that dumbass window that opens if one fails to reach high enough to open the settings shortcut window

I think that Huawei is going to use the same waterfall display but using the volume button in the same position that they put the power button on the mate 30 pro, because if you see the photos you can see that the power and volume button is on the same position of the mate 30 pro and it got the same cutout pushing the button to the back without touching the screen, That's a beast phone I Iove Huawei and people want to damage the sales with the excuse of don't have Google, come on you can install Google in 5 minutes and if you don't want is options I got the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5g and I don't have any problem FB, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp are working perfectly and I don't have Google service and I didn't sideload if you want a real phone with good camera and great software Huawei is my recommendation
