Same ol lame design! I've been waiting to upgrade my 7 year old iMac for ages, but having to have to hold off every year cos of the archaic design with the godhideous, ginormous bezels n chin and a design which is essentially close to 2 decades old as of now. SSD only storage is finally a move in the right direction, but whatever happened to all the rumors of the Pro Display XDR-like new iMacs n IMac Pros? Kuo et al have been claiming that they're coming for some time now. Guess next year with all the ARM based chips, then?

Yes, they did adjust the keyboard and touch bar size for the Pro models, but it's essentially the same laptop. It was amazing when it used this design initially however it's long in the tooth now.

Fulljack, 05 Aug 2020because of cheaper price, but still offer a very competitiv... moreFirst of all, they are trying to get rid of x86 all together, second, AMD has issues with compatibility with some specific software therefore it makes no sense for apple to deal with this when they are already trying to get rid of x86 in two years. Third, there is thunderbolt which apple relies on, and it is not supported by AMD as for now. I agree that AMD has some nice chips, but it makes no sense for apple to make this shift now. If there was no apple own silicon on the way, they would probably think about it twice, still would have problems with thunderbolt though, so they would have to delay this as well until AMD can use thunderbolt.

Lol, Apple typical useless overpriced garbage offerings, cost thousands, comes with inferior Intel chips with shitty AMD gpu's, while Windows PCs runs on more faster and efficient AMD cpus with much better Nvidia gpus for half the price, hail Macs :D

Rishabh, 05 Aug 2020Think about it in a logical sense. Apple is moving to ARM c... morebecause of cheaper price, but still offer a very competitive performance and efficiency? also as I already said Hackintosh already run well on AMD CPUs so optimization shouldn't be an issue, that's just PR talk. for three years Apple will still support x86 ecosystem, so that is until 2023. AMD supply isn't also an issue, as AMD already providing the GPUs for iMac.

I thought about going for a 3900xt/2080ti or a 10900k/2080ti system. I'd Couple it to 32gb of 3600mhz ram, chill her with some exotic cooling solution and sit back viewing its awesomeness via a 144hz, 4k panel but......... after seeing Apples latest offering, I've thought twice!

That fancy screen coating, throttled processors, ridiculous ram speeds and Gpu's that won't run Crysis on medium settings (lol) really pulled my heart strings.

All I need now is a iWatch, ipad, iPhone and some Sheep shears.

They have a few x86 based Mac's in their pipeline. Why would they choose another OEM for processors for 2-3 computers they'll eventually launch on x86? Switching to AMD means optimization of drivers and external research and development. Sticking to Intel for 1-2 years would mean that they can make these buffer products until they built a proper ARM based Macs.

Expect the smaller (current 21.5") one to go for Apple silicone with 24" display
No wonder they didnt even update the smaller one since the new refresh one is 2-3 months away
The bigger one refresh probably will come next year

weird that Apple did not choose to release it with Zen 2, which is known for it's highly efficient and performance in such workload. Hackintosh already available and works well on AMD CPU, so it's probably not that hard for Apple to use AMD, but it probably because it'll be hard for Apple to topple that performance and efficiency metric when they decided to change iMac line to their own custom silicon.

Expecting a fresh new look. Current bezels are too thick. Highest-end model may want you to consider a iMac Pro instead. I think the lowest-end model gives you a Radeon Pro 555X and intel core i3 (must be a F-version dual-core CPU), but seriously Apple? Not enough power for serious multitasking for its price.
