Weekly poll: Did the Galaxy Note20, Note20 Ultra and Z Fold2 live up to expectations?

09 August 2020
The Notes are the unrivaled stylus champions and the Fold2 brings key improvements, but are there weak spots in the new premium lineup?

Sorry but samsung you need to learn;
I have note 4 since october 2014 as my daily smartphone. It was perfect in every way (yes exynos is little power hungry back then but snapdragon was no good either)
I was thinking to buy note 7 but it exploded then note 8 comes with only 3300 mah battery almost same with note 4 and much bigger screen than note 4 so i passed that as well. When it comes to note 9 i want 512 gb version but in my country it sold out so quickly i didn't have chance to buy. Then i say ok wait for note 10 when things get interesting. I want note 10+ because it still has micro sd slot but the problem samsung went for punch hole front camera and to be honest it looks like dirt on screen. After exynos 990 fiasco with s20 ultra i thought ok samsung will learn from their mistakes and give proper note 20 this time.

BUT NOOOOOOO

I mean they even ditch 45 watt charging (I know there is negligable difference with 25 watt charging on s20 ultra but why is that) they still sending exynos 990 and know battery life and performance gap with new snapdragon 865+ is bigger than before and they put gigantic 6.9 inch power hungry screen. (Adjustable refresh rate pure crap and wont work to be honest) The battery capacity also 500 mah less than s20 ultra (ok there is s pen slot but then what is upgrade means) and to top it all no 16 gb ram even on 512 gb version !!!

Samsung sorry but you ruined note series for many loyal note fans. I will probably go for Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra and forget s pen.

I would like to meet those 16 people who have voted for Note 20. I mean I want to meet those diamonds.

Sorry but for the Note 20's price 1080p isn't good enough; especially since it's AMOLED.

talha5007, 09 Aug 2020really? you're comparing those devices from past when ... moreMerely an observation and correction. I wouldn't mind plastic backs if they were removable, which is not the case with Note 20 or any other phone today.

The only phone that didn't live up to expectations is the note20,
Regarding the ultra the performance of the camera and the exynos version will determine if the ultra is the top android phone or not.

For me if I had the money I would go for the fold.

For now the best phones for my budget are Xiaomi phones and I get the IR blaster😅

            TBH that's not good enough.
Exynos, notch, no headphone jack, the size of that monster, not 2K@120Hz (considering the price and stylus), questionable fingerprit sensor, curved screen ... it's incredibly sad that a note device can feel so ... boring and uninteresting.
Note 9 was the last, true flaship - no compromise, Samsung phone.

              Where do i start.

Ok, nobody could have foreseen the Covid 19 pandemic so this unfortunate event must be taken into consideration.

My opinion is, Samsung management have lost their minds.
I can see that note 20 / ultra heave been in developement a while and could not be changed but they definately could have been postponed until later net year.

The planets populations are FLAT BROKE (Billionaire and Co exemptions applied)

The £$1000 smartphone has been dead for at least 2 years and counting and in my opinion is never coming back.

I dont want to rant on about something as clearly obvious as this for to much longer so i will just add some suggestions:

              1. Samsung is on the verge of becoming another BlackBerry, HTC, Sony (Add your own)
if they do not start looking at reality and the gravity of the situation that they find themselves in right now.

              2. I think it would have been better to re release the Note 10s this year with updated specs and a lower price, saving the Note 20s for 2021.

              3. The base model Note 20 should be killed immediately!

              4. If a foldable phone cannot be made and sold for under £$1000, it should not be brought to market, period.

              5. Microsoft's Surface Duo needs to be studied very carefully.
If Microsoft can price it under £$1000 of even better £$800, i think it has an excellent chance of being a success and selling in great numbers.
For me, the DUAL SCREEN approach is the way to go right now in the so called foldables space, as it is more durable and cost effective to have 2 separate screens instead of a foldable screen with all of its current disadvantages.

2020 is going to be a brutal year for any company that has not got their heads and strategies based in reality. I hope Samsung can pull off the blinkers before the damage is irreversible.

Ultra is alright (better value than the S20 ultra IMHO) but the Note 20 is absolutely pointless. If they wanted to cut corners, I'd rather they use the SnapDragon 865 vanilla as well as use the 12MP telephoto/16MP Wide-angle from the S10 along with the return of the headphone jack and keeping the same panel as the Note 20 Ultra. That would have made it a little bit better to stomach.

Samsung is on their high horse just because the US is targeting Huawei. Either way, with the Zenfone 7 series and (hopefully) Mate 40 X on the way, Samsung is, once again, not getting my money this year.

I didn't have any expectations so they weren't dashed. They're good looking phones but way too quirky. The Note 20 has a 60hz 1080p panel and polycarbinate back. The Note Ultra has a large 6.9 inch 120hz 1440p panel that can only do 120hz at 1080p. I get how they have a stylus and all but I'm not sure if the phones are worth getting just for the stylus.

Note20: Truly atrocious. A thousand bucks for 60 Hz screen, plastic back and shitty Exynos is absurd. People who thought and approved such stupidity need to be fired.

Note20 Ultra: Not bad but too expensive. Looks gorgeous and I love the squarish design. Was interested on it but too bad it came with stupid Exynos in my country.

Fold 2: Looks good, love the big outside screen. Rather than buying Note20 Ultra I might as well wait for this. Most likely will come with SD processor on my country so gonna save a bit for this.

Hmm... Lets see.... Does 48% of the world get Exynos? I thought only europe and britain got the Exynos version?

Anonymous, 09 Aug 2020This is not the first plastic flagship from Samsung. Think ... morereally? you're comparing those devices from past when plastic back was normal on android devices, and count the price tag as well. were those S3 devices costing whooping $1000?

Anonymous, 09 Aug 2020This is not the first plastic flagship from Samsung. Think ... moreThe past is the past.

Many flagship phones were built of plastic except iPhone (though most has a metal frame).

It's 2020 and of course the price of the phone has hiked up significantly.

The reason one shouldn't buy vanilla note 20 is that it stuck at 60Hz refresh rate at 1000$.

Every company is trying to come up with something unique in the smartphone business. So samsung thought it would be nice to produce a 1000 dollar flagship with plastic back! No one has done it in a while. Well done Samsung.
