He r... moreThe thing is, as said in the video I linked of the guy talking about LineageOS, there are also hardware side spying, and as long as we don't do a general effort, most applications will spy on you anyway regardless of the ROM.

Things will still goes worse and worse unless we do act all together and say stop, we should all ask for stuff such as pop up camera or physical shutter, microphone ON/OFF/Push to talk button and killswitch for everything but the GSM (meaning no localisation).
But also a dedicated chip for security that handle biometric and store locally, away from the OS, all biometric data, face, fingerprint or any other, same with pattern, PIN and/or password which should be different from the Google one.

I am not saying no one should seek better privacy in a specific ROM such as LineageOS or even SailfishOS, but this is only a fix and a short term solution, the real solution is to educate peoples on the matter and altogether force the regular Android experience to be privacy respecting.

And yes, it's a crime, and Google, Amazon and Apple are guilty too. But the masses are entertained with bread and circuses so they continue to use these services and their data is harvested.

I won't buy a phone that can't be rooted, so I research development (ROMs etc) before purchase. Compromises are always made, of course, but privacy is not one of them, for me.

Anonymous, 08 Aug 2020You're glowing, or ignorant. Now that's redundant.Well, you can't say that Huawei is particular have spywares, ALL android devices do infringe privacy way further than the user agreement form stipulate, Huawei isn't THE evil, actually the US was unable to prove that Huawei do spy on users, while there are tons of evidences (including weekly scandals that appear on the news) of US based services that do spy, from Amazon's Alexa listening, Google taking and storing way more data than they should, Facebook selling data that should stay private, etc etc.
It doesn't mean that China doesn't spy, but clearly, thinking that Huawei is loaded with spywares while the rest of Android devices aren't is just backward, if anything, thanks to the missing Google Mobile Services, Huawei is actually more secure.

Jojo, 08 Aug 2020Why have a pop up? There are under screen cameras now. It d... moreBecause pop up give you privacy while underdisplay doesn't.
Underdisplay camera cost a LOT, not a single device with those have been released yet because of how complex and stupid the concept it, looking through an opaque surface is completely stupid when the goal is to achieve high quality picture.
Pop up is the BEST front camera solution and the ONLY to give both front camera (and true fulldisplay) and privacy.

And if you don't want front camera (I also don't) simply stop talking against the pop up, which is actually the only thing along with second display on the back that can open the road to no front camera, the underdisplay camera doesn't as it reinforce the idea of putting front camera at all cost, even if it mean no privacy, high cost, poor RAW picture quality, Meh processed picture quality, display with visible spots where the camera are, and maybe some yet unknown issues that will surface.

Underdisplay camera is the stupidest tech ever imagined, the pop up do better in every single aspects AND offer you privacy, while the underdisplay camera actually since it isn't visible give an illusion of privacy, which is even worse than no privacy at all.
Hell I even prefer a good bezel with nice sensors on it like the Samsung S8/S9 even if it doesn't offer privacy over this stupidity that is underdisplay camera who only have downsides.

And one of the biggest reason why I am against underdisplay camera, is that it will be used as an excuse to not produce any pop up anymore, which is completely stupid, dangerous and exactly what you prove risk to happen, because peoples not knowing how stuff works nor their characteristics influence the wrong tech to become popular and the good one to become rare, the same thing do happen to ultrasonic FPS or 3D facial recognition, both being order of magnitudes superior to their equivalents but peoples comeup with completely stupid and totally wrong arguments to bash them, causing them to be rare.

Why have a pop up? There are under screen cameras now. It does not matter how good the camera quality, the people that will buy it don't even want a front camera, but no one makes a phone without one anymore.
