It's hard for me to see how Nokia has fallen at the hands of Elop. Innovation is what made them a great company - and me a customer - for years. I guess when my E72 finally dies, I will have to go with an Android as I tried, and hated, the iPhone. I think the real thing that bothers me, is that when Nokia goes away.. all that will be left is Apple and the Android fodder. Whither, competition.

AnonD-21645, 05 Jul 2012I know a lot of people blame M$, etc. But I honestly don... moretotally agree with you mate. and you got that right on the reason why they are not listening to their customers (they have forgoten that the customer is always right)

nokia will die after the last symbian update... and i guess they dont have any plans on using or creating other OS after that.. since MS is dictating them what to do. their hands are tied. they cant do anythings..

here lies nokia... its the end folks!...

I know a lot of people blame M$, etc.

But I honestly don't think Nokia had a choice...

They were faced with a situation (of their own making I might add) where they hadn't innovated (software-wise) and hadn't paid any attention to the market it was in.

More importantly they didn't listen to their customers who were crying out for apps and a much more modern interface... they were too busy investing in technology such as Pureview, which nobody really wanted (xenon flashes and the megapixel race was over by this point, people weren't that bothered about high-spec cameras on their phones)

I guess at this point they were losing so much money and market share that they couldn't turn to Android / Google - because I suspect Google wouldn't give Nokia the financial backing it needed (why would it, it was racing ahead without doing this..)

Whereas M$ needed to get a foothold into the mobile industry... financially it's the perfect partnership.. .Nokia needed the money to survive, M$ needed the brand to get them noticed and has very deep pockets...

Ultimately Nokia will be owned by M$ I suspect in the next 3 years, effectively in control of hardware / software, similar to their 'Surface' tablets...

I think this heralds the last innovation from Nokia... (alongside the overrated Pureview technology)

cyber, 05 Jul 2012too bad for you nokia, you are going out of this game,window... more100% agree! Microsoft and Windows will drag Nokia down! Current Windows based Nokia 900 Lumia is not bad. But Microsoft has a history of screwing things up and betting on wrong products. Nokia part w Windows if you want a real come back!

nokia's second big misstake (reject The "iPhone" prototype was the First one), N9 is still one of the best or the best due to meego OS. bought iPad 3 to my wife...just very expensive and very annoying gadget; the IOS is just the base all is base on separate apps. All have to buy from applestore or sync with ithunes...after the using N9 just to try wipe screen to swap between apps, to connect to your home network, transfer files between pc and iPad, choose freely your music or e.x. Ringtones, just can't do these with iPad....

It's true, Microsoft can use you and dump you, look at HTC, it was dumped after having made for them phones since 2000 including the ever best Microsoft phone HTC HD2.

All part of the dismantling of nokia. Destroy your in house expertise, give up an in house OS, sell assets, and give whats left to MS. A once great company with worldwide market-share of smartphones at 35% reduced to being used as a lacky by redmond. All to be able to say "We're happy with the way things are progressing" at 4% marketshare. Lost your leadership role in technology, innovation, and reduced to eeking out 4% market share on the back of a locked down OS with fewer functions. Good work elop and the nokia board. You've managed to destroy a company in record time.
