what is this world coming to?
everyone wants to make their own smartphone
It is all due to NOKIA not giving enough attention to Customer Needs and Markets Positions in 2007 - 2010
they are doing the same now again after selling some 2 or 4 million Lumias they think they can rule the world again by not upgrading exisiting Lumias to WP8 specially ditching Lumia 900 in 3 months
Welcome Amazon and Firefox do something amazing if you can

Boyan, 06 Jul 2012Watch out, Amazon, Apple is ready to sue you!Amazon might have to pay Microsoft royalties too if they went Android phone. All the Android OEMs are paying Microsoft because of infringing.

so what its gonna be? a heavily customize UI of android? i think it wonk work! even though kindle fire was a hit! if it is base on android people will just go for the real android namely nexus 7!or maybe the rumored iPad Mini!
if they will buy RIM and port its ecosystem to BB it is, i guess, a nice move! there will be an effect, (1) they save an awesome company and (2) they will be the 4th competitor on the race!
buying RIM is i think the best move! even though RIM independence is no more, but since the company is on loose now! and amazon will be the one to save it!
so i think releasing an android base smartphone and next generation kindle fire and no android goodies is a bad move! a BlackBerry Kindle fire PlayBook would be nice!

how can they compete against Android when --it's safe to assume-- they use customized version of Android.
like hitting a building with it's foundation. logically out.

Amazon should totally build their own smartphone. I dig that the Kindle Fire has suck a heavily customized UI, since EVERY ANDROID PHONE LOOKS THE SAME. A truly stand out UX. Licence from Nokia the Clear Black Display, all the radios, build it around a 720p RGB 5 " display with (CBD) and put a massive battery in it with the newest LTE Quadcore/Adreno 230 SoC, wrapped in polycarbonate and sell it for $400 off contract with 64GB of storage and a microSD slot. WIN!

eu, 06 Jul 2012They should improve their tablet and then to go to smartphones.I see what you did there. I foresee a similar result to that of the (currently unreleased) Facebook phone - a FAIL. Both Android and iOS (unfamiliar with BB and WP) offer Amazon interactivity, via a Web browser or app. What will this device offer that the (already familiar) competition don't/won't? This won't end well for Amazon.

There's something I love about these news if they're true. I won't be buying an Amazon phone while living out of the US or the European countries with Amazon contents available. But if they step in the way they did with the Kindle Fire (sold by themselves, cheap and without contract), we can expect heavy price cuts in no contract upper-mid range smartphones in about 18-24 months. À la Glaxy Nexus but more generalized.

Gosh people try just to be a little more open minded.
This is Amazon not google. I can see alot people buying this
phone if they do it right.
Main issue if you are in the UK is that Google cant get all of their media in one place i have to keep hopping around and have a different account for each thing. If google to make a phone and has they have shown with the kindle fire it is a one stop shop and judging by the sales figures of that thing it seems to work. My own concern would be that this phone would have to look nice and it couldnt be just a boring slab of a phone there are hundreds of handsets like that Amazon may have to do something a little different. Will it sell who knows

Oh that's just silly. Amazon should stick to online retail and stop trying to get in on the action. As anon said, "where does it end" with guys like these.

This phone will only work in countries where Amazon is a force. Its nonexistent in many places and at the end of the day this will become a US Only type gadget like the Kindle Fire even without explicitly stating such

Yeah Apple sue because of patent breaches.. But take take the legal route because it could mean banned devices for competitiors, or massive payouts for breach of patents.
If Apple took a page out of Nokia's book and offered to license the patents out to the offending companies, they'd be much better off because it wouldn't have cost millions to sue. Then they would have a contant stream of revenue from patent licensing.
Also, meego is a dead platform.. As the Kindle Fire uses a heavily modified version of Android, then you would imagine Amazon doing the same for one of thier own smartphones.

Boyan, 06 Jul 2012Watch out, Amazon, Apple is ready to sue you!Not just Apple, but any patents it may infringe on. Apple doesn't sue companies "just because", they only sue based on patents. Same with any othe big maker that has sued someone lately.
