I think a crayon could be dangerous... he could melt it in the microwave and then drink it thinking it a smoothie... I think something like a bubble blower would be safer... or a pacifier...

What I meant in that specific bit of text is that people come up with a lot of homemade remedies for their devices, so a dude putting his in a microwave, dumb as it is (really, really dumb) doesn't surprise me... :)

In *some* cases, the water may not cause any significant damage to the electronic device, so if it becomes wet, drying it out is definitely a good idea. In most cases though, water will actually destroy the device. Once dead, it sure doesn't hurt to try to dry it. Worse that happens is nothing.
