Kriegsherr, 26 Aug 2020Xiaomi explains the technology behind Mi 10 Ultra's ch... moreLOL, so true. Or their typical strategy culture, using another investor firm to buy part/whole of DxO or sponsor them.

Xiaomi explains the technology behind Mi 10 Ultra's chart topping camera: Simply Pay DxOmark.

Kudos to Xiaomi. They invested millions of $$ in recent years in camera tech.First in that Isocell HMX,Samsung is manufacturing that one, and it turned out to be very good, much better in Mi 10Pro than with S20Ultra because of different colour filters.
Now they invested in this brand new Omnivision's OV48C,custom made for Xiaomi, with much fewer pixels but 50% bigger.Judging by those Dxo's photo samples this new sensor seems to be even better than Isocell, probably cheaper too..

Well, see this? This was made by others, but who cares. Now the other part, that's the beauty, it took us 2 weeks to copy the information on our servers. But the best part is the third camera. That one, is just there, useless, but there, because we can.

Nick Tagataka, 26 Aug 2020Oversaturated colours and multi-exposure image stacking are... moreForgive me for your lack of knowledge.

Take two photos using different exposures. Photo 1 with shutter 1/3000s and photo 2 with shutter 1/1000s.
There will be indeed a huge difference of colour because how much light is absorbed.
Also, You do not get the strong blue sky (S20 ultra) with slower shutter nor overexposed clouds with faster shutter.

You do not get correct WB with image stacking. Many professional cameras can do it , but photographers rarely use. They prefer to deal with shadows.

Where do you think things like blue cloudy sky of samsung comes from? Or the high constrast colours of Pixel?

Just look at any review here, they always mention the extra saturation with HDR photos.

crappy xiaomi couldnt make mi 9t front camera to work without a problem let alone make more advanced back camera hardware

Amazing. Just a few years back (like, 5?) they were praised for making it possible to get top-level hardware (SoC, to be specific) in a cheap phone, like, 1/2 of a flagship price. But their cameras left a lot to be desired. And now they've topped the DxO chart!

Now if they had a bit more stable firmware, I'd even consider them! But they lost me with the headphone jack.

                                        Well, first step :
Not putting any stupidly low resolution sensors and maintaining a minimum of 12Mp which is the industry standard/minimum.
