Sony Xperia 5 II image leaks, shows ZEISS T* lenses, but no 3D ToF sensor

26 August 2020
Sony's collaboration with the famous lens maker should be an indication of a flagship-level triple camera setup.

Chinese companies copying your hard work of 10 years and brings the same to the market in 3 months. how would you feel?

we all agree that innovation should be for mankind. companies shouldn't rip off just because they invented it but its also true that copycats should not steal ideas and then sells it to the market for cheap whereas who put all those hard work and invested big chunk of money loses.

And Xperia 5 II will not have this one O.o
This will hurt indoor shot in a huge way.
Goodbye autofocus, welcome Xperia 1/5 focus hunting ... again.

Understandable. Its a compact phone anyway. Just pricing it right.

I have big doubts that wannabe Pro Photographers having RAW from a smartphone and Lightroom / Photoshop are able to make anything better that, say, iPhone or Pixel does in Full Auto with zero efforts. They all shout out loud that Sony gives you full control, creativity...bla-bla-bla. BUT let's face the truth - all these Xperia 1 II Pro features, control, creativity etc are fun only, control for control sake. Final result will be no different to what others do in Full Auto.

Very hard to find and way to expensive, so i got the Motorola Edge instead which is also very good looking

Assuming that you wanted to say it other way around - no, that's not true on a smartphone camera.

Kriegsherr, 26 Aug 2020the problem is whoever innovates does not matter, the Chine... moreIsn't it a good thing though? After all, that's the cycle that pushes the market forward. There are ones who innovate new technologies and those who popularise them: Without the former, we would be stuck with same-old technology forever. Without the latter, seeds of new ideas would die out before they would even come out because nobody would know about them and there wouldn't be any needs for them.

But just because one company invented new tech that doesn't mean they can keep the price high even after other companies start using it in their own products. When people start complaining about how one is overpricing their products when others have the same features yet still are several hundreds bucks cheaper, then they SHOULD start considering lowering the price point.

They could come with ultra version, tablet, watches, whatever. Same old specs is not fun anymore, even if it's unlike other flagships.

if this leak is true, I'd be ecstatic. Since the beginning of the year I've been looking for a phone that fits everything I need. Powerful, compact with capable camera and this looks like it might fit the bill. Here's to hoping it'll have Band 71 and it's an instant buy for me.

I think 1 iii may have it.
Bezels will be near half compared to 1ii.
Sensor gets smaller without performance loss.

Alluuu, 27 Aug 2020Sad, was really looking forward to this phone, specifically... moreglad to find a someone willing to sell me xz2 compact so i can change my main phone from z1 compact... it has similar size... i guess we wont see another flagship compact anymore... that is if xperia 10 ii, pixel 4a, iphone se 2020, nord are out of your short list... though these are capable handsets...

Not sure if the omission of 3D ToF sensor will be missed, I don't even care about it. As long as it has the same camera sensor and software as the Xperia 1 ii, that is all fine by me.

I definitely want to wait for the Xperia 5 ii. As much as I like the Xperia 1 ii, it's just way too expensive!
