Huawei Mate 40 and 40 Pro cases show a round camera bump, vanilla model has a 3.5 mm jack

27 August 2020
Just like the Mate 30 before it. This year's Pro model will have a volume rocker, in contrast to the 2019 flagship.

you know what's funny about those who say they dont buy it because it doesn't have google? is funny as they are clearly the people who do NOT need google. I mean what you can do with google when you can't even use google to google " how to install google services on huawei" and find out it takes 15 mins to do so (tested by myself on p40 pro) and you just rather whine like a little girl

Anonymous, 27 Aug 2020Huh? They put the jack on the cheaper model. Pushing the id... moreWell, the top performance flagships are mostly not good enough, s20+ was with envy triggering 64mp or 12mp with big pixels, P40pro had higher resolution tele camera maybe even without too much upscaling, midrange from xiaomi was with the highest resolution and the jack and it is until now.
Do not forget what all you miss on foldables(no jack there, sensors thin, etc.), the latest and most pricy specs may be not the most enjoyable if you miss important feature. Look what could do sony with adding raw to all cameras and the jack. What will happen if they add 8K?
ps: huawei should do that as well.

YUKI93, 27 Aug 2020I wonder how the official specs would be between the two. I... moreObviously not the 108mp. Their only camera supplier are Sony. Both Huawei & Sony agree they will not use medium format res on a small smartphone camera sensor, u can Google for it.

It will use the same 50mp as previous P40, but with 9P lens (enhance image clarity + near none distortion) & liquid lens tech (a first for a smartphone, crazy fast Autofocus). Wether they will use LiDAR or not, still a mystery. Pro+ version maybe come with 10x optical + 3x optical, Pro only with 5x, both will using new 80mp Cine UWA. Vanilla version settled with normal 50mp as P40, 20mp UWA at 16mm (with Super Macro) & 3x optical.

I wonder how the official specs would be between the two. I do read stories that the Mate 40 Pro will have a 108MP camera. Whether is that true or not is yet to be seen.

Just give me straight port all day long tqvm. Enough of me living the dongle and wireless life, I definitely don't want to embrace it back.

Darn...unless it's going to be on the side, that messes with any chance of the pro model having a pop-up cam. Either way, still hoping for a Mate 40 X.

Now there are many DAC to connect type c input to Jack 3.5 mm that greatly improve the audio quality taking it to HIFI audio

I rarely used a headset anyway so for me it's no problem.

It's sad when the TOP models have features removed and the "downgraded" versions of phones have more features.

This is the sad state of "consumer choice" in smartphones in 2020.

Ahhh...feels great. Guess I'll stick with Huawei & upgrade my Mate 20 to 40 then. Thinking to jumpship brand, but even without GMS, seems like I could live with it.

Huawei's Petal Search kind of solve a lot. Whatsapp, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, Spotify can easily be installed using it. Gmail can be slaved into stock email app, Youtube can using browser, with app icon shortcut. No need Google Maps, I use Waze. The most important parts, banking apps, and I'm glad all banking app I use in my country already in AppGallery. Sure, with GMS everything will be lot better, but HMS is improving.
