Sony Xperia 5 II official announcement set for September 17

The original Xperia 5 was announced at IFA last year, it seems that the sequel will come a couple of weeks late.

My Xperia 5 is just lovely, a perfectly shaped and nice looking phone with high qual feel, perfect in the palm, perfect to browse Web or use for two windows, perfect for one hand in that easy chageable mode. Nice camera shots and videos. Am looking forward to this upgrade, even better camera, larger battery, 3.5 mm jack and 5G.

    ME, 27 Aug 2020If they will bring back the Compact .. will pay any money.Had a xz2 compact. After a short time It didn't work. Wast of a lot of Money

              There is also the Xperia 1ii PRO (not to be confused with the Pro camera & video apps the phone has) due at some point - although I expect that to be exclusive to the Sony Professional equipment website and not the consumer electronics website.

                  I have seen official promo video.

                    1) smaller screen is cheaper, it is also 1080p vs 4K
                    2) battery will be smaller
                    3) smaller body uses less external materials

                    This is enough to make it cheaper already. This is why I do not like those cuts seen on Mi10, OP8 and Find X2 compared to Pro version.

                    Not fair ppl have to get bigger phone if they want the better camera, more storage, more ram etc ...

I don't even need to mention those smartphones that have more absurdly-complicated names than this very simple "5 (Mark) II" or "1 (Mark) II". You all know what phones are those. SMH.

                        I can't understand the people who think that smaller phone should be cheaper 🤷‍♂️.
                        It is mostly going to be 1000$ with the noise canceling headphones.

                          Really cannot wait for this one. I've been halting my plan on buying the Xperia 1 ii because of its price tag, so this Xperia 5 ii is definitely the one I've been waiting for.

                            Probably $1000 or $1100 + pre-order 🎁. Unless they do cuts and instead of making a smaller version of 1ii, they decide to make much lower level phone like non-pro from OP and Xiaomi.

                            $700 was the price of 2016 flagship from samsung, sony, lg, htc, motorola etc ..

                            - Highly paid people working with mobile (ppl from Alpha, Walkman, Bravia, Pictures and Music sectors).
                            - Xperia is not full of chinese components like chinese phones to reduce cost.
                            - phones are not assembled in China (which would be cheaper).
                            - sony does not sell only online outside Japan (this saves money)
                            - sony has costumer services in many countries (even where they do not sell anymore)
                            - sony spends lots of money to make software to emulate functions from their cameras, tv, video cameras etc ... Cant just be copied to cellphone. Done from zero.
                            - small amount of devices keeps them from getting better deals with suppliers. Who buys tons of same components get discounts.
                            - IP65/68 can add up to 20% the final cost of the device.

                            No foreign brand can match prices of chinese phones.

                            Moto Edge+ was announced for 1200 euros in Europe.
                            Asus Zen7 Pro is almost $1000.
                            V60 was $800 because many cuts (no more QHD, no 2x zoom, no ufs3.0, no gorilla 6 both sides etc).

Same way Note 20 Ultra is great phone yet really expensive, but the 'closest' phone to it is Note 20 and so if you compare these two, Note 20 Ultra suddenly sounds like a great deal).

                                  But the main reason is that they're likely going to ask for this phone 700$ or more, at which point it's really hard to sell a phone with 1080p 60hz screen in 2020...

                                    They just seem to repurpose their old phones by switching out the internals and keeping the same old outside ugliness. No wonder they are losing money in the mobile department.

                                      To them the mark I, II, III, etc.... gives better impression of one being the successor, not something different. A new generation of same product.

                                      Headphone WH-1000x iv name means ::

                                      Wireless Headphone 1000X mark four ...
