30 August 2020
They seem to check almost all of the boxes, but are they actually phones you want to buy?

No headphone jack, no buy. Guess I'll stick with ROG Phone II for now. If Xperia 5 II has good battery life, I might go back to Sony.

I was one of the people that wanted Zenfone 6, but it was hard to find. So I got a rugged Blackview 9800. I love my rugged phone with thermal camera, but I still want the Zenfone more.

They are far from perfect - no IP, huuuuge, heavy as a brick, no headphone jack, BUT it seems like an excelent phone for someone who likes big phones - the price is right, Asus software is disaster no more, no notch ... even through I want a compact phone 7 Pro seems like an interesting option.
GCam will make it into an excelent snapper.

If they were to make a Z7 with S765G, add a headphone jack and include all the cameras, SIM, storages and RAM epecs without the OIS and sell it at USD$450- $500...that wld really been a giant killer...

Best Non Chinese flagship out there at a reasonable price.
People who don't want to use miui, Realme ui, color OS or EMUI and other Chinese skins will love the stock feel of ZenUi.

No headphone jack, no wireless charging, no ip68... For €800?? No thanks Asus. If it had a headphone jack and was €500 I'd get it. But it's a terrible deal as it is. You can get the S20 for the same price and gain wireless charging and ip68, and 3 years of OS updates.
Still no jack but if I was going to buy an overpriced pos without a jack I'd get the S20

The ZenFone 7 is the best value for common sers, snapdragon 865, and other aspect are enough for a lot of people. The ZenFone 7 pro will be usefull for people who make many video sith the smartphone, like vlogging cause of OIS.

Will these phones be a hit? Sure but I voted for neither.

Zenfone 7 could have had both an LCD with 90Hz refresh rate and headphone jack to be at least $100-$150 cheaper than the pro and I would have gladly saved the money to get it.

Then the Pro makes ZERO sense to remove the headphone jack. No excuses.

Then both don't have a solid amount of LTE/5G bands for the US (which is weird since ROG crammed nearly all of them on the 3rd phone). All these things is why I'm getting neither. They're good phones but not for me.

Lack of 3.5mm jack is a deal breaker for me on any mobile. Even if i have some bt headsets, connecting via cable is very often more convenient and i don't have to charge 2 devices. Also it's good to have some choice. So will probably get Nokia 5 II for that reason, if priced similarly.

notafanboy, 30 Aug 2020Paying twice as much just for a headphone jack? That's... moreMy right, my rules. I still need the jack because my daily driver, ATH-M50x has a jack. I'm an audiophile who treats myself and my ears rightly. If I got some wireless studio headphones like Oppo PM-1 or PM-2 or whatever Oppo released last 2015, I would've berated the hell out of the jack but I defend it wholeheartedly. I don't want anyone to suffer like that.

Oh yeah, I only want flagships because I'm influenced with the Apple culture that only flagship matters and I stick to flagships.

Sry, no jack no buy. Asus's Zenfone since the Zenfone 6 is supposed to be a heartfelt message to the flagship users that a headphone jack can still fit inside a jam packed phone. I don't care about the split motherboard issues that come across in order to do that! I'll get the Samsung S21 since there's a rumor from NoypiGeeks that Samsung will bring back the jack just to experiment if there really is a sales increase because of the jack. If it's a rumor then I'll wait for the grey market to make the Xperia 1 III to be available in the Philippines.

Tax would destroy that phone. It would easily sell for £500

I wish they wouldn't be so damn heavy. 230g is too much.

If the Redmi K30 ultra launches outside China at $399 for the 8/256 GB model just like the China price. It will be the ultimate Flagship Killer of the year. 120hz oled, pop up camera, 5G, Dimensity 1000+, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.0, and Glass Metal Build all for $399. Just a bit dissapointed though, if not, the Zenfone 7 series will be killed. Hope the Realme 7 Pro will not dissapoint.

I'd rather save bit of money and go for the 7, all the pro has over the normal 7 is an overclocked processor 10% more powerful than the normal in which I don't think alot of people will tell the difference if they run PUBG on a SD 865 phone and a SD 865+ phone. Bit disappointed that Asus has decided not to release both models in UK but there's always gearbest and if I'm really that desperate and and don't mind waiting 3 months for shipping and postage then there's AliExpress
