It hasn't been mentioned here but last year Vivo introduced the Apex 2019 concept phone that has no buttons, ports, speakers, or any holes (no front cam either).

AnonD-955101, 05 Sep 2020I can imagine all of your gadgets ffc covered with a black tape😂Because, you don't know how it work, sometime a single comment is enough.
I already did, "go back in time" by finding where were my first comment, look at how the pop up camera opinion was back then, find how many times I wrote about it, read how the opinion is now, where except few persons hating on it or some who haven't got the memo, we went from many peoples hating on it for wrong reasons, to many peoples defending it.
Hell I would even say that the Huawei Honor X10 and K30/Poco F2 Pro reason to have a pop up is because of all of us on many websites who did this, otherwise it would have disappeared already.

You GREATLY underestimate the numbers :
      https://www.androidauthority.com/scrap-selfie-cameras-1093090/
From a single article, almost 40% wanting a phone without front camera, over 20% being potentially interested, against under 40% against it, on a 1000+ vote poll (which is way over the inaccurate 40 votes ones) is impressive and clearly show that there are a potentially huge community outside for this market, also 0.01% is still 70K peoples, which actually is way more than that, but you can't realize that because you are so biased to the front camera, it seem inconceivable for you that peoples could simply NOT want it.

I am a programmer, I know how those sh*t work, my gaming PC simply don't have any webcam, my OnePlus 6t (should have punched my balls rather than buying that) that I wait to change for a non butchered display shit hole/notch for something like a Poco F2 Pro lay flat, far enough from me, and my tablet that I recently started again as I use it with Macro Deck have a crappy paper balanced over it waiting for me to open it and remove microphone and cameras (as it is a 50€ tablet I bought for the sole purpose of being used as special additional controls anyway and will only be used for that purpose).
But considering that you don't know how bad lack of privacy can get, I'll educate you rather than laughing at you :

      https://www.rawstory.com/2020/04/privacy-is-disappearing-in-america-faster-than-we-realize-and-the-coronavirus-isnt-helping/
And a good educational video from a pro hacker explaining how far (and this is quite amazing and interesting) things can go to access datas :
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9PqVcgT1kQ

Privacy isn't a laughing matter, the lack of privacy could one day be your demise, and those aren't crazy complot theory, those are hard facts, collection of data isn't about targeted ads anymore, since a while, and the unethical used can go quite far, Clearview AI should have been a clear enough warning about that already.
So yeah, I have nothing covered in tape, but it actually if a common practice that many security expert advise to do.

AnonD-863872, 05 Sep 2020who said "no selfie camera"?Me, many peoples would like that some options exist, meaning some models, even a little dozen to start, with no front camera, and since I am not afraid of breaking conventions, I speak up for all those who desire such devices.
Because this is tiring to see many fix for the existence of the front camera, butchering the display, hiding the spying camera under a display which is a costly and underperforming solution and other, while the simple solution of simply not putting any would be quite easy to perform.
Literally any brand can easily make a small production run on any of their existing model without front camera as a sub-variant, it would cost nothing (actually cost less) and satisfy many users.

Nick Tagataka, 05 Sep 2020"A lot" of people are still too small in number f... moreHere is how you are totally wrong :

                      1) The Smartphone industry DOES NOT CARE what users want up to a certain level (and the threshold is quite high, only the removal of the 3.5mm Jack reached enough complaints that some company considered maybe not to ditch it), and it is proven by MANY and POPULAR requests being totally ignored, a great exemple is how OnePlus simply don't give a s**t about everybody asking for Always On Display, which is a really simple update to push and which require really little job, mainly considering that with the Ambiant Display, the interface is already done anyway.
Number of requests are anyway way less importantly regarder than equal number of complains.

                      2) The reason the smartphone industry don't care is because Smartphone is one of the thing which have the biggest potential for diversity, making it quite hard to look at every requests.

                      3) The main reason why they keep a SINGLE type of device with minor variations, rather than going to diversity, is because, as you proved it here, EVERYTIME someone make any kind of request, or express ANY desire, or wrote ANY idea, from stupid to genius, there is ALWAYS, at least one person to come and negatively answer to that, the issue here is, unlike what peoples seem to think, comments like that can have a HUGE impact on the market, from marketing studies to investors who relies HEAVILY/primarily on news articles to decides what to do with their investments, can have a tremendous leverage on companies decisions, and who read the comments to find out the general opinion on X or Y things to either talk about it to the company they invested a lot in, or chose which one to invest in, since they see that EVERY suggestions/requests is opposed, well, guess what, the industry have literally NO fricking clue of what set of feature to put on smartphones, hence why they simply all copy each other and do the exact same type of devices with no diversity.

Many peoples would want flagship like with only one good enough camera, it is a highly popular request, yet it is not a thing.
Don't mix up, something not existing and having no market for such thing.
The only other market that come to my mind where there is as much potential diversity than Smartphones is cars, but since, since a while, many type already existed because internet idiots had a chance of ruining it by applying negative opinion on someone else's request, cars have tons of diversity, with many car types like Berlines, SuV, compacts, spots, luxury, supercar...Each existing in a wide price range, and each having many differences, and even there you can add many possible options to choose from.
That would be the smartphone industry, ton of choices, but peoples HAVE to complain about other's tastes.

Also, I said SOME devices, if you need to often do that, you'd obviously don't take such a phone, and even there, solutions exist, from external camera (USB, Jack, Bluetooth) to mirrors on the back :

AnonD-641645, 05 Sep 2020This is cool, but it's a shame that pop--up solution l... moreTrue, but sadly the way this slider/pop up hybrid work could have been massively improved upon, rather than putting a part of the phone's main body into a moving part, it could have simply been a slider simply on the outside of the main body, making the phone totally water resistant in the process, it could have even also used a smart prism/reflector periscope like that would allow the pop up/slider to have 3 positions :
*Retracted, where all camera are hidden.
*Half, where the main camera are exposed and have view on the back.
*Extended, where the prism/reflector would come in front of the camera allowing a 180° reflection and maybe some lenses to make them operate even better at close range, allowing to both have hidden camera and have the possibility to use the main camera as front camera at the same time !

Also since the mechanism would be on the outside, even if it were to break (which pop up proved to be quite tough and really rarely break anyway), it would allow repairability without the need to open the phone's main body, as only the sliding part which host its own motor(s) would have to be disconnected and removed.

With ToF on the back that could be a mix of dot projector (structured light) and Flash LiDAR for having multiple range of operation, it would also allow a quite good 3D facial recognition to be possible while not requiring to repeat the sensors on the front !
And unlike the Asus Zenfone 6/7/7 Pro, since the camera are on the main body, and the pop up/slider is on the outside, it would allow for much more complex camera setup, with the only restriction being that all camera would have to be aligned horizontally, like the TCL 10 or the LG V60 for example :
                                        https://www.gsmarena.com/tcl_10_5g-pictures-10178.php
                                        https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_v60_thinq_5g-pictures-10103.php

As for the thickness, well actually this isn't that bad, there is no benefit of a phone slimmer than 10mm and actually not many peoples who really like them, many want slim phone because this is the trend but can't justify why, and actually many prefer the handling of a thicker device, between 10mm and 15mm lies the perfect mobile thickness.
15mm is the average thickness of a finger, which isn't that much actually.
