Samsung have being ignoring our complains for a long time, but it is really ugly for those of us expecting to enjoy a 5.3inches HD screen only to find out this color banding and black clipping.I hope they will correct this problem ASAP and also Galaxy S3 seems to have a bit of this problem but to a lesser degree.

Black Clipping and EMMC brick bug issues are very well known to Samsung, but only the fix does not seem to come from them yet. Instead, they are rolling out ICS 4.0.4 updates across the world !!!!

    Really sad & disgusting :(

All Amoled screens has the same issue. I own SGS2,galaxy nexus and galaxy note all those devecies has the same issue even though SGS2 has RGB matrix still same as a pentiles Amoled. Best screen goes to XPERIA S SONY.

Samsung seem to be getting a bad rep for quality issues. Apple trumped them with the Antennagate thing, but in the last coupld of years we've had this display issue, yellowish AMOLEDS, lagging firmwares and the notorious Pink Blob camera issue that has existed since the SGS and has continued to the SGS3.

Perhaps Sammy should trade in it's Display tech for Nokias Camera tech?

Had my note since April this year, and I have to say I've not noticed any screen issues as per above. Galaxy Note is a fantastic phone and imo well worth the investment. I just picked up a Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 as well, which is an amazing piece of kit.

Can't believe so many people are having this problem, can't say I've noticed it, and I use my Note for a lot of movies and programs while i'm bored.

Love the Note, glad I got it and didn't wait for the S3...

I am sure nobady bothered to try a quick fix:

In the Video player of your choice go to the settings disable the Auto Brightness (uncheck) and move the lever all the way up to full brightness to level 15 it is I guess, and in the phone settings I always chose the Dynamic Mode.
I have tried on both Stock ICS 4.0.4 Video player and MXPlAYER,and I can see no black clipping issue.

AnonD-12445, 13 Jul 2012its nothing compared to 100 of advantages this phone and it... moreIn reply to Shd @ 2012-07-13 16:57 from nCg9
its nothing compared to 100 of advantages this phone and its display has. I'm a proud owner Note,S1,S2,S3,Iphone 4 and Blackberry 9900. But this phone and its display size is what I love most

                  - It's nothing? I'm not trying to insult you man but really, it's nothing? Your standards are that low? FYI, the advantages that you speak of can be found on every other decent, current gen android device, except for two things: the GARGANTUAN screen and s-pen. Now if one of those two KEY features fail to work as promised/advertised/expected, then we have a problem. I guess it's clear now why Samsung is ignoring this issue... most users don't care and are willing to let Samsung get away with it.

I have this issue, Samsung. As well as the EMMC bug! Luckily I haven't been affected by it yet as I'm careful with how I restore my device. But still, these things bug me. Fix them! Please!

i just only notice it because of this article(not so observant, hehe) yeah, it's not really good to look at... will upgrading the OS to 4.0.4 solve the problem? it's not also safe to upgrade because of the brickbug... huhuhu... hope these all can be fixed... the NOTE is a very great phoneblet, it is really, i love it, lots of things you can do specially with the S-Pen... hope these issues won't occur on the Galaxy Note 2.

and just want to say this issue is barely noticeable in most circumstances, I bet half of you here affected by this didn't even notice it until you saw the article!!!

not even I knew it was an issue. I just thought that's what all amoleds are like (it's the first oled device I have, so I couldn't have known).

And argue all you want, the Note display is still a good display in spite of this.

and hey, don't complain about reception issues when your phones used to need rubber bands around them to be able to make any calls at all.

I have an international GT-N7000 since November 2011.
Never had the mentioned screen issues.
I guess it's a problem which only occurrs with a specific revision of the AMOLED screen produced by Samsung.

To everyone saying they dont have this issue, pls test your device in a pitch black room before posting. Watching in a well lit room the problem is not very noticable. I have exchanged my device twice now, even my newest exchange has the issue, I also checked my cousins note and my bosses, they both also have the issue. Its like part of the grey scale is missing, big jump from grey to black on gamma tests.
