Anonymous, 11 Sep 2020We've used optical microscopes for more than 70 years ... moreThat inherent battery consumption on LCD is only more on lower brightness ironically
A full backlight is more efficient when high brightness is needed and displaying white content (white mode lol)
And the same advantage of oled become s a disadvantage if every single pixel is illuminating for higher brightness or whites

Anonymous, 11 Sep 2020We've used optical microscopes for more than 70 years ... moreThe last 3 paragraphs I agree with. But the first one I don't. I never said "don't evolve", but I meant "just because a new, better tech has appeared, that doesn't mean the old one is now garbage". But you made a nice logic comment and I agree with it

Andreidinutu, 11 Sep 2020They're not garbage as you make them sound. Don't... moreWe've used optical microscopes for more than 70 years and so we shouldn't use electron ones???
A better argument would be that 144hz LCDs are better than 60hz AMOLEDs. That I can get behind.
Another thing is that LCDs inherently consume more power, because they need constant full-screen backlighting, while OLEDs and AMOLEDs can light individual pixels and when paired with dark mode AMOLEDs actually save a ton of battery. And i can attest to that fact, I have an AMOLED phone and dark mode truly saves battery.
Yes so we should stop hating on LCDs but instead welcome their improvements and enjoy the benefits of both, LCDs for their consistency and AMOLEDs for their ability to turn on and off individual pixels.

MrKing, 11 Sep 2020Unfortunately, most HRR LCDs are far away from perfect (unl... moreIt depends on who uses the panel, but don't generalize HRR panels as all bad displays.
Those phones you've mentioned may be experiencing those issues, but the one on my Redmi K30 5G is perfectly great. It's totally fast, smooth, consistent, no noticeable flickering despite using PWM for low brightness, and colors are brilliantly accurate, as tested by GSMArena themselves (the 4G K30 achieved average DeltaE of 1.0 in Standard color mode).
Maybe you've just used those poor quality ones, which is why you're saying those things, but one thing's for sure is that HDR IPS LCD screens look equally as good as a normal HDR AMOLED display if manufacturers use them the right way.
