I bought it for my wife in Japan at an AU store at launch and it deserves all the praise it's been getting. She was adamant on sticking with Xperia, even though I told her Samsung S20 would be better, but I wasn't going to win that argument (maybe some national pride in that heh). I think it is slightly overpriced, but for Sony products, it is a bit lower than I expected. The form factor is perfect for smaller hands too. The 120 hz display makes the phone feel much faster and makes my Note 10+ feel so slow in comparison.

This really is a beautiful phone with amazing build quality expected from Sony. It is light, but solid feeling with the right amount of heft in the hand. No included charging brick in the box nor any screen protector though.

I love the fact you can set max charging limits to 80 or 90 percent. I realize the benefit remains to be seen, but I believe it really helps the longevity of the battery if you plan to keep the phone for more than 3 years. Plus, a notification shows up during charging where you have the option to charge to 100% with a single tap.

The camera definitely is not bad, but the photos are just different if you are used to Samsung's or Google's photo processing. They are not as "vibrant" but are more subdued and closer to the real image with more lighting introduced.

My main complaint is that the Google Assistant button on an already heavily loaded side panel. There's the power button, volume buttons, Google Assistant button, and camera shutter button. A case really helps accidental button presses since not force is required to activate the buttons. She definitely doesn't use Google Assistant much, and at least putting it on the left side of the phone would have helped.

The other complaint is this article that said the phone was going to get Android 11 right after launch. That hasn't happened even until now and it's almost been a month since launch (October 17th was the launch date in Japan for AU).

So many experts here, with so many opinions... obviously it Comes down to personal preference. There is no right of wrong.

But how many of you have used the phone?

I bought the 5 II because I love the form factor, I love the 120hz OPTION for gaming (yes, it does matter!) but I van opt out for battery preservation (the 4000 mA does a great job, alsof because Sony doesn't boost the brightness to creatie a false sense of picture clarity)

I think it's awesome that Sony has re-entered the Arena with these models, and I think adding the 120hz to the 1 II is a great move. Had they Dome this slightly sooner may have swayed me to buy the 1II instead.

Add to this the awesome Pro camera features which are hard to find on any competing model and I totally love the Xperience.

The audio from the speakers is Nice and balanced, the dynamic vibration is a fun addition which adds to the music Sensation, which is also great i.c.w. Sony's LDAC streamed on my XM3. Awesome with hifi audio.

But this is all very personal... I would recommend anyone to go out and try it hands-on!

GregLu, 20 Sep 2020And you, check the sentence. As I said before, my concern w... moreIt's just simple. Sony has a camera division and they have entry level compact cameras, so they just don't want hurt their camera sales hence they purposefully make the picture quality not as good their compact cameras. Now sonymobile is no more just Sony electronics. And they slowly start to understanding the compact camera market is dying therefore they introduced the photo pro app and cinema pro app into their mobile.

Xperia Z3, Z5, XZ1, XZ2 etc uses small sensors with 19-24mpx so pixels were very small (high noise and medium dynamic range). Before you write something please check the facts.

How can another maker could made better perfomance of the same sensor when Sony, that engineer it, couldn't not ? Remember Z3, Z5 and so on ? Well, at this price point, this should be perfect, and considering that Sony remove feature after feature, when other add feature and feature ... It's not on par.

There are tons of 12MP 1/2.55" out there.

It's awesome then! Only thing, that Xperia 1 II was missing was the HRR. It's design is one of the best, to my mind.

I had several Sony phone (My last was Z5c) and with the year, I was more and more unhappy with the way it went, on the software side (IMX sensor and yet, software way off and the other manufacturer could made better with the same sensor), I'm eager for a return for them but frankly, I'm not hyped that much, and the only thing that could make me consider it seriously is the price. I don't think I'm the only one thinking like this, especially after more than 3 years with a Samsung phone (Samsung S7 > S8 > LG V30 > Note 9 then Note 10+) with a lot of improvement in OneUI :)

Looks like you just need an excuse to bash when everyone realizes 1080@120 does use more power than 4K60.

Only dumb ppl would pay for 4K screen and set 1080@120 to use all the time.
