Weekly poll: the Sony Xperia 5 II seems to be exactly what many have been asking for, or is it?

20 September 2020
It checks most boxes for many people but will those people put their money where their mouth is?

Don't get me wrong...I hate these high prices the same as anyone else!
But this phone costs no more than any other one with similar specs.

Does the Samsung have a notification LED? Nope
Does the Samsung have the ability to bypass the battery thereby drawing power directly through the USB port during long term use? Nope
Does the Samsung have a PROPER top bezel wherein all the necessary sensors can be housed like ALL cell phones should have? Nope
I'm sure I could come up with more reasons but I think I have proved my point!
For me...NO Samsung phone even comes close.

LOL, 20 Sep 2020Sony camera sensors can be found in most brands of smartpho... moreYes it is true. But remember Sony will never give the latest and best camera tech to competitors to make their phones. This is the advantage of Sony phones. Sony will offer the latest camera tech in their Sony flagship phones only. That is why photos taken on Sony phone cameras are so good. But hardware is 50% of good photos another 50% is good camera software in phones. Without it you will not get the best photos. So ask youself if competitors have this software and look what software "Sony Xperia 1 ii" (Mark 2) has to offer.

No Gorilla glass 6, no water proof, no 120Hz, No HDR display, No 4K HDR recording, 5MP telephoto is a big joke. How can you even compare this with Xperia 5 II lol. Poco F2 might be value for the price for 500$ but nowhere near flagship range.

Anders, 21 Sep 2020£900 for an only 1080p display is ridiculous. If it was £60... moreYou got to keep in mind that not all screen resolutions can keep up high refresh rates and 1080p seems to be sweet point for high refresh rate look at asus rig 3 and note 20 ultra both reaches the 120+ with 1080p. You got to think also higher refresh and resolution the more power you consume. Plus 5 has Sd 865 along with 8 gb ram, storage 128 Gb with the extra stuff it brings. It has pretty good array of cameras. For package it pretty good. Plus I don't believe any 765sd phones that isn't one plus has offered 120+ hz refresh.

It is! I wanted smaller phone with 3.5mm that has great camera and no notch screen ! They would destroy competition if they only made some similar but cheaper model with Snapdragon 765 or 730g processor.

The aspect ratio is terrible. 5 minutes after you buy this phone you will spend all your time wondering why so little fits on your screen despite that it's "6.1 inch". the keys on your keyboard will tip you off: tiny because - like everything else - they are scaled relative to the screen's width. you get the extra screen size in the place it matters least: on the far edge of the screen where it only provides some near useless scroll space. Scaling-wise, this screen is worse than an old 5 inch phone, like going back to the Samsung S3 era. watching 16:9 videos will feel like you're back in 2012. And if you hold the phone in portrait mode with any regularity, expect even more frustration.

I had a K20 (SD730, Fullscreen 1080p display etc) but the performance was worse than my phone before that (Moto One Power SD636).
I think with Xiaomi, due to the poor quality control, it is more like lottery. If everything works well, consider yourself lucky.

Me, I will be sticking to Sony, Apple, Samsung, LG etc. henceforth.

The reason they are not climbing market share is their ugly back. Remember it is the back which is projected to everyone as front when u r listening phone. 2nd reason of not climbing is their week software house. They have no muscle like Winpho had MS softwarehouse muscle, sony with PS operating system (software house) muscle, Bravia and QN1 DSPs, Samsung has flagship DSPs too, also catching up in software dept with OneUI. LG has not tech demonstration platform.

i also never had xiaomi and realme, they are good though, "high spec, low price" they go for quantity, many people buy them and when one is broken, they look for other people having some reusable part... they flood the market even more than galaxy phones...
at my end, i have xperias, lgs, nokias, lenovos, cloudfone, firefly mobile, asus zenfone and fonepad, alcatel...
so far the best i have are nokia 909, sony xperia z5 premium and xz2 compact...
as for how i see the recent unveiling of phones, i was hyped by xperia 1ii, since i expected 5ii to use lower resolution display... the lg wing, where at first i never thought that it can have a lot of use cases, the gimbal mode amazed me... not hyped anymore with folds and flips...
as for most chinese manufacturers, i think more "features" will trickle down to midrangers then to entry levels... some are already hyping some entry levels as "gaming phone" due to mediatek g series... material build and longevity of device is not priority at that price range as more people buying such will change phones a year after or less, anyway... but some of those device or those approaching the midrange price already have adaptive charging, so it can last 2-3 years or even more... but of course, cutting corners is evident, not that obvious to most users, or at least not a deal breaker...
Never had a Xiaomi or Realme, and have bought so many phones so far, I don't even remember all of them. Have used at least 4 Xperia phones, and several Zenfone, Motorola, Nokia phones over the years, currently have six devices, so now am I eligible to comment here ?
