21 September 2020
Is it really surprising that it's going to be more expensive than its predecessor?

The prices of OnePlus are just crazy. In Germany S20+ 5G street price is already better than OnePlus 8 and you don't get a chinese phone. Now with the Samsung FE 5G coming with Snapdragon everywhere OnePlus will have no chance here. I already see people changing their phones for Samsung. Nobody wants to use a no name, especially for 800 - 1000 Euro.

Good that Google has gone back to the basics. The new generation Pixels are the phones to get nowadays.

T M, 22 Sep 2020I'm glad I recently bought, on a great sale, what look... moreCould not agree more. OnePlus 7T was the last great device, after that, they started behaving as if they are the market leaders. They talk about their screens all the time because they don't have anything else to talk about - there is nothing that is cutting edge. They just hike the price twice a year, and make rubbish excuses to justify the price. They used to be flagship killer, now they are no longer that. People used to like OnePlus because they used to offer great device for the asking price, but now they are just another brand with a hype that is just gimmick. An average person like me won't be able to justify the price tag, so won't be able to buy one.
It is time for them to wake up, otherwise they will lose their fan base. Marketing and hype will not lead them very far. It is not the question of their devices costing less than the competition, if the competition is selling for $1400, they cannot say our devices cost just $800. Its time to stop being greedy and win customers back.

Livius, 23 Sep 2020Good luck with that. I would never pay 900 euros for a phon... moreI will wait and see, camera performance is sometimes down to the software controlling it.

I might just wait for the 9 series if the difference is that incremental.

Still chaper than Sony 5 II for 900 which is a low end flagship device.
Also still cheaper than apple lineup which cost a lot nmore but offer a lot less.
Same goes if we comparuison this phone with Samsung latest flagship.

tastyOne, 22 Sep 2020no offense but you are clearly not in the loop when it come... moreProduction cost of the device... Nothing else. R&D, marketing, software update, server to host all the crap, logistics, after sale support and supply.... Realistically, I don't see that high.. Device rolling with very generic design and parts maybe, but it averaging out between product lines.

Anonymous, 22 Sep 2020900 euros = 5MP depth, 2MP macro , gorilla 5, no sd slot ... moreSony is piss poor brand without market share, of course people will be upset, but One Plus is not much better same garbage like Sony both brands acting like they are big dogs, basically scalping their customers for avarage devices

I'm glad I recently bought, on a great sale, what looks to be their last great phone, the 7T.

Because everything this company has done since is a clown show.

Oneplus is not resolving any issues with their camera they put a 2nd grade hardware and and even bad software over it to make things real bad.

Once the 1+ device is out one can find a google camera port out immediately for it which at times raise my suspicions that maybe it's 1+ itself which is not putting efforts in making a good software but getting the g am work best for their phones via a sideload. That's where their R&D is involved (for the geeks).

For the uninitiated ones the processor is big enough a win-win.

I also think it is about time they start working on basics like
                            Screen
                            Speakers
                            Cameras

also, the O2 OS is simply superb it needs more efforts and a good hardware to be sustained better.

I do not remeber ppl demanding from companies win7 or 8 as updates for those computers shipped with Vista.

Title should change to, you won't like it but we all somehow expecting it.

OnePlus is no longer the vendor it once was. The freedom and flexibility of their software is probably is still what keeps them going. But for how long? I wonder...

silbier.hell, 22 Sep 2020No point in arguing in that cheap guy. He will still argue ... moreno offense but you are clearly not in the loop when it comes to the profits that these companies are making off their products.

Here is a link with the profit margins that Samsung and Apple are making on their phones:
                                    https://www.techwalls.com/production-costs-of-smartphones/

You'll see that the average profit margin is over 60%. If Samsung and Apple are having these margins with higher marketing & RnD costs than OnePlus you can safely bet that OnePlus is having a similar margin if not higher, except the heigh spec processor that they are putting in their phone I'm not seeing much of anything that is cutting edge tech in them. Don't get me wrong, OnePlus is making great phones but the tech they are putting in them is not something they have developed themselves so there is no justification for the high price.

Oneplus need to be careful, as their pricing strategy for their flagships is getting a bit high. I love Oneplus as a brand and for what they have done for Smartphone competition, but these sort of prices will start to put off customers, especially when you can now start to pick up competition phones that have similar specs, but are cheaper now, as they have been out for a few months already.

Livius, 22 Sep 2020899 for the 256GB version ? You lost your damn mind and esp... moreThat's more or less what I had to pay for a sim free S20+5G with 128Gb, after a discount.

So to me getting 256Gb for the same price and very similar spec isn't that bad a deal especially with a Snapdragon processor.
