How can you people say: "Use vanilla/stock ICS" ? No manufacturer except for Google with their branded phones uses this. All of them use a custom skin to add more differentiation for their products. Specs are similar for a lot of phones, so the only differentiation that can be done is through design and skins.

ICS isn't a big deal at all. It has had very few versions, and now Jelly Bean is available too. I installed ICS on my Galaxy S2 and it made my phone worse. Battery dies quicker, the phone feels slower and no new features have been added. HTC Desire HD owners should not feel sorry for this.

When HTC announced that there is no update for HTC Desire HD, my friend's phone already running ICS for last 3 months from XDA developers. HTC should learn from XDA developers how to upgrade your phones.

Aww, I feel sad for the Desire HD owners... :/

But having my EVO 3D updated I can say it isn't a BIG deal. Of course it can mean less app compatibility in the future, but the phone is from 2010 already... So it's a delicated situation on real hardware upgrade of the owners soon.
