New connector, new nanoSIM, what else? Do they deliberately want to make it incompatible with everything just to see how many would buy it anyway? At least the 3.5mm jack is still there, but I guess the next one will have a 27-pin nanojack?

Apple just want being a unique, so it has developed its own 19 pin connector. Assembing micro-USB is not a big deal. Apple
wants not to be in common smartphone. So Apple will not have these in any means:-
-USB mass storage
-Bluetooth File Transfer
Apple has done this for strict app store. If these two service will allow then modders will easily extract any downloaded apps and make them pirated. Apple is different.
Another purpose for making 19 pin connector may be for slimmer iphone 5 and prevent from jailbreaking.

I don't have an I phone. But I have a LG Optimus Black due for replacement soon. I think the headphone jack at the top has always been a louzy position. Its fine when the phone is in your pocket but when you are using the phone the wire dangles over the screen too easily when in use and you constantly have to push it back. Its ANNOYING! Also the cable bends rather sharply - gets weak over time till the little wires inside break and the headset dies. As for the move to a 19 pin connector, it keeps the exclusive factor for iphone accessories - and will probably drive down the prices of existing iphone 4 accessories since retailers and manufacturers will gradually want to clear stock. Overall I think the changes make sense. I just hope they keep it same price and then iphone 4s gets its price reduced, just like they did with ipad 2 and "the new ipad."

Apple is going on the wilds ... One of the few iPhone options for Pureview sound recording like was the external Blue Mickey and especially for iPhone 4/ 4S the still not released Mickey Digital. Whed this gonna hit the market Apple will invent it all again and switch the old port with a different one. Brilliant!

I have an iPhone 4 and my brother has s2 and we are gonna upgrade for iPhone 5 and s3 soon enough, we both are happy with each device and don't compare them since the iPhone deliver what I need and the galaxy s deliver what he needs so let people decide what they want based on the hardware and software because 70% of the people know all about phones now

The beginning of the end for Apple where they piss off everybody who's bought their Apple accessories and are forced into the greed box of Apple making them buy a whole new range of accessories... What utter stupidity... Just buy an Android device and use Mini USB like every other phone on the planet... The Galaxy S III is far superior anyway

eeeewww,.. what is good about that 19 pin connector?... microusb is a universal connector. they should have use microusb than spending money for the development of a new connector interface, thinking that it will make them "unique". and why the heck they are still using that old iphone design? are they nuts? it even looks like a big 3gs. the os might be moving forward but the design is not. there is no innovation...

Anonymous, 23 Jul 2012this is one of the reasons why I refuse to buy any apple pr... more...because none of the other manufacturers ever changed charging connectors in the last 5 or 6 years...
From the following manufactuers, I've personally encountered at least:
Motorola - 4 (2 proprietary)
LG - 3 (2 proprietary)
HTC - 2 (1 proprietary, though mini-USB compatible)
Samsung - 4 (*3* proprietary)

I own an Android device. Not fan of the iPhone. I like iPods and MacBooks despite their price.
What's the big deal. Of course they changed the connector. It's about time. The old one used to much space. We all changed from Mini USB to Micro and the fuss was not that big.
My concern is the changing of the 3,5 jack position. I don't see it working good there> design wise.
In other concerns looks good for iOS users. I am looking forward to buying the next Nexus(hopefully with a big battery), that beeing said i don't bash Apple products because i gain nothing.. so do you.
