Android 12 will make using third-party app stores easier

29 September 2020
But starting next year Google will enforce the rule that requires apps on Google Play to use the Play billing system for in-app purchases.

LG Superfan, 29 Sep 2020People are complaining about the 30% cut but just think of ... moreWhole problem is that 30% is just a tip of a iceberg of problems app store entails. And it's not just a Epic Games who has to deal with unfair practices . Essentially what apple does with its app store is similar to what Amazon did to book publishers (just search pbs doc). It's easy to say - oh, just pay 30%, when Apple constantly sets up competing services and undercuts developers; Or as matter of fact they can use data of that app. Or as if publishing process was any way transparent, search for example for "floatplane" and and how much ingenuine things developers had to deal with it.

It's always easy to say, hey nothing here, just pay 30% and you are done, or to appeal at ad populum ("everybody does that") than to acknowledge that something is wrong, but things are not right there and must be addressed.

Application developers, "hooray we are free from colonialism! Look, there is a Huawei app gallery and Petal search!"
Watch online news: Because the playstore is as deserted as a burial place, Google will try to force third-party stores to at least use the Google Play billing system.
"Oh no! God, please kill me!"

AnonD-909757, 29 Sep 2020I wonder if this is isn't partially to also try and he... moreQuite possible this might be the case, they did apply for license which I am sure was rejected so this might be the next best thing

People are complaining about the 30% cut but just think of it you are using some else's store to sell your item ofcourse you owe them a rent, all this complaining is like you want to live in a rented house without paying any rent
30% maybe big but just be honest if taking example of Fortnite, Epic didn't publish it on playstore and just stuck with their own site and store how many downloads do you think they would get? Much less of course. Now look by using their own payment they got removed from both stores and players on iOS can't use the game anymore which obviously means less IAP means less revenue and you would have to spend on marketing which otherwise would usually be everywhere on app store
There is also concern of piracy and malicious apps if the developer's site is down or unaccessible of course people would go to different sites and they might download malicious or hacked/cracked apps
App stores provide a safe and easy way to distribute apps and maintaining it is not free it cost money so of course Google and Apple have to take a cut and if not cut from every IAP they might go a different route like a monthly rent or annual payment which the developers will have to pay and for lesser known developers it might become hard to pay that fee since their sales/downloads would be low and this might lead to more ads filled apps or higher prices for apps which will negatively effect lesser known developers because no one wants ads filled apps or pay for an unknown developer
Many people might disagree but I think 30% cut is kind of justified

AnonD-909757, 29 Sep 2020I wonder if this is isn't partially to also try and he... moreThis could backfire though , if huawei offer to let fornite and Spotify etc
Pay less then users swap to devices based on apps.

Also what’s to stop , fortnite or Spotify taking payments via the web Or desktop for for nite or Spotify.. Spotify offers desktop use so they can’t force Spotify to take desktop payments through google or they will
Tell them to get fucked.. and jump to huawei.

Think the time has come for app developers to take standard
If no ones updates apps or all refuse payments then google won’t many any more or Apple and the apps market crashes.

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2020Why can't developers make their own website for sidelo... moreThis has been banned by Google and Apple, because a) It poses a huge security risk and b) Google and Apple have no control over such type of payments.

It might be useful for Huawei to get Android 12 to make their App Gallery usage more seamless.

Why can't developers make their own website for sideloading then make their own payment system within it so they don't go through Google? They way, they don't depend on Google and Google doesn't incur any cost to host their apps, win win for all.

All IAP must use Google ... This is shitty of them.

Game makers need to get together & setup their own store to compete with Google.
Come Epics! Talk to your competitors to cut out Google.

I wonder if this is isn't partially to also try and help Huawei ?
Because Google WANT Huawei to use Android (it is profitable for both) and not make their own rival OS (would be bad for both), it's the government who are against Huawei, not Google.

Mobile games are well bad on Android have you seen most of them and all there ads

.alpha, 29 Sep 202030% is a big cutAre you kidding? Thats the same amount you pay your government as tax. Governments use the 30 - 40% tax to maintain roads, schools and public infrastructure. Companies use it to build and maintain their software teams, infrastructure etc. Either way a tax is a tax and you got to pay it buddy. There is no free lunch in this world. 30% is totally fair and makes it worth for Google to be doing what it is doing. Otherwise you won't have an app store or android phones to distribute your apps in the first place.

but... but my samsung wont get android 12, it didnt even get 11 yet!!!

As long as Google demands people use their GMS in all apps there is no point porting apps to other stores since they cannot be used even if you download it on a unsupported device. GMS monopoly and apps requiring them as the ONLY payment option is technically a anti-trust issue... :I
