chris1998, 01 Oct 2020This is well over due tbh . I'm not a Samsung user but... moreIm sorry but Samsungs web browser, File Manager, Music Player and Gallery/Photo are all better than googles alternatives.

And yet most people wonder why Android One exists in the first place.

[deleted post]Most Chinese devices are rather cheap in India. Less tax, and of course, they tend to have lower buying capacity than let's say, Europeans. Oh, they also bash expensive products like Samsung or Apple.

In my country any phone that costs $500 will attract a tax. iPhones are even more expensive because of the US currency, but should the exchange rates drop, then the price also drops. Glad to get an iPhone 11 with reduced price.

Not completely accurate. You don't need to install/flash a whole new rom to remove stuff currently, just rooting your device (voids any warranty) will be enough.

The same law should apply in Asia where Chinese OEMs target their users for c**p bloatware.

While Samsung's bloatware is not associated with security risks, they slow down your phone considerably and with Exynos the battery life is dissapointing.

In most Chinese OEMs, especially Xiaomi and realme, this has been linked to security issues. The ads have been mentioned to possibly link to harmful/vulgar sites. Of course, bloatware is excessive. But their OS is usually less optimised than Samsung's OneUI with already lot of bloatware, so their phones can be pretty slow despite powerful chipset.

Actually, I dislike Samsung, but for an Android OEM, still hats off, because I would rather keep Samsung bloatware than Chinese. iOS is still the best because of near-zero bloat.

So for now, skipping the Chinese OEMs again.

              Hope other region follow
Many unused even google own apps sit on phone

DrakeX, 01 Oct 2020Nice. If this happens then that means I don't need to ... moreI'm hoping the same too, though its unlikely we can uninstall google core services since its tied to many things.
At least we should be able to get rid of Google apps we don't need. I, for one, never use google photos, duo, drive, chrome, movies, and yt music so I'd like to remove them.
It's so annoying that I can install apps from google but then they cannot be uninstalled.

Google apps are useful. But it is good to uninstall Facebook app.

Seems like the EU is on a roll making some serious changes

They want a single charging standard

                      Removal of bloatware

Finally an entity is actually regulating our new internet world

This is well over due tbh . I'm not a Samsung user but I'm not a fan of how Samsung doubles up on apps. Like why do you need a Samsung version of Google photos. In UK every card machine will say Google Pay and Apple Pay is accepted but you never see anything about Samsung Pay.

Probably the best news in the last 10 years.

Great! These tech giants deserve to get thrown down to the ground and crushed. They have too much power over people and the market.

I hope the alliance of makers will also succeed in changing Apple and Google's duopoly and their 30% app fee cut. Time to break these Giants into pieces.

                            yahoo

bloatware = directed use of certain apps from certain sources + various types of commercials and stuff = incomes for certain producers, including the phone manufacturer. think about the bloatware bloated :) "cheap" chinese phones. surely google and apple will not rejoice, either...

digital service act will, most likely, drive an increase in the price of the various phones. remains to see how much.

                                Finally! Rot in Hell Facebook!

Nice. If this happens then that means I don't need to use ADB to disable apps that I don't use. If they allow uninstalling Google, that would make the cleanest software possible for all phones. Bloatware takes a small chunk of storage so having a little bit more space is good. Also, it could help battery.

                                    finally
