Samsung considers putting an RGB strip on the Galaxy Z Fold's hideaway hinge

07 October 2020
The company patented a light strip that can be used as a larger, more flexible notification light.

Now I wonder how many smartphones have a unique LED Strip at the front for notifications. So far the Xperia ZR for me does it the best as viewing photos in the Album changes the colour of the LED to whatever is dominant and setting the colour for an app like green for whatsapp and purple for IG is SO useful and the brightness is dim enough to be viewed at night comfortably.

The problem with these phones are BATTERY....I had the fold 2 for 10 days and the battery is not what you expect. By 3 pm with light use, emails, text, phone is at 30% and that is unacceptable. I thought there was an issue with the battery and had it checked by Samsung. No problem found. Paying $2600 for a phone that can't last for a full day is ridiculous. I see gamers on you tube saying it last until 11pm gaming!!! I assume they are paid by Samsung. BATTERY, BATTERY,BATTERY....Or effective battery management.

Nice idea of using the hinge in a more functional manner. But instead of focusing on light and blink topics Samsung should ensure to introduce a simple microSDXC card slot (as it is typically for their own tablet devices). It is such a shame, that such a device has no option at all in flexible, local storage enhancement. This is a MUST in the light of such a high-price device.

If you can go case less with most slabs you should have no trouble with a gf2. As well, don't do anything stupid, it's very obviously not rated for dust and dirt, you have to pull off a screen protector basically saying so.

It does feel a bit more like a piece of jewelry than an older phone, but that's also been part of the evolution. No phone now can take a licking the way some of my old Motorola Droid Turbo 2 could. Could launch that sucker across the room, no screen protector (other than built in) and no case and you could be confident that it would be fine.

Even the iPhone SE is now glass front and back. We're already carrying jewelry, not star-tac's.

James Whister, 08 Oct 2020Why can't companies put a notification light circle on... moreIt doesn't matter where they put it AS LONG as they put it somewhere. It's such an incredibly useful feature, even if it's just a single color like on new Xiaomi phones - it simply tells you there's something that needs an attention and you catch it with you peripheral vision much easier than an extra icon on AOD.

Honestly, manufacturers not adding notification LED is probably the most frustrating trend for me, even more so than removal of a headphone jack. I don't think it's acceptable on phones with amoled either, but buying an LCD without a notification led? No thanks!

Why can't companies put a notification light circle on the borders of punch hole camera? That will look cool and much better alternative to always on display.

It's better to have something extra that can be disabled unlike other A company kept on removing stuff.

For $2000 it should come with wireless earbuds, case, screen protector, wireless charger, a year worth of paid subscription apps like Spotify and Audible. Seriously $2000 for a phone and a charger?!
