Next step from Apple: iPhone 13 with usb type-c interface and abolish cable. :)))))

WhoCares, 16 Oct 2020ROFL...everybody "NEEDS" a charger! When they ph... moreIf you'd have read any of my other comments you would know I've owned windows phones, iphones and android phones in the past (currently on an S10), I'm not an apple fanboy.

Of course everyone needs a charger, but not everyone needs to be forced to get an extra one when they buy a new phone if they've already got 6 of them lying around - they can use one of their existing ones, therefore it's less wasteful as you reuse what you already have when possible. Come on man, this should be common sense.

You get supplied the cable with new phones still and there's nothing stopping you from buying other cables to adapt between USB-A to lightning or whatever other kind of connector they use in the future - you would have to be stupid to believe that only the official charger and cable for a given phone would be compatible, especially when pretty much all phones, fast chargers and decent cables support both the standardised USB connector on at least one end and the standardised USB-PD power specifications.

Also can we take a moment to think about how few people don't have any USB ports in their homes at all... I imagine that number of people is pretty small. Or you know, you could just buy a charger separately rather than being forced to pay for one with the phone that you might not need, as you seem to be asking to be forced to buy extras you might not need with your new phone.

The whole point of this is that you have the option to buy the phone separately from the charger. There's nothing proprietary about charging your iPhone - you can use the provided cable or any existing iPhone cable since like the 5S from forever ago and any USB charger or USB port and it'll work.

When they phase out the ridiculous proprietary lightning cable, you'll need to buy a new one of those too. You'll see. You're crazy if you think this is creating LESS waste. Why do you think they introduced the Mag Safe charger now? Keep eating those Apples.......

At last Apple understand that they are fashion brand.

hmm, 14 Oct 2020What are you talking about ? They remove charger and headph... more"And what e-waste your talking about when you need to buy a charger"
"E-waste dont go anywhere if you have the charger in the box or not."

The key point is *when* you need to buy a charger. They supply the cable and the old USB-A lightning cables also work fine. Therefore it works with any charger you already own, regardless of brand. If it supplies USB 5v with at least 1A, (which most laptops, desktops and chargers do) it will charge your phone. Sooo many people already have tonnes of chargers and USB ports lying around, all of which will be compatible.

Now think about that... if you don't need a charger because you already have one then you won't need it included in the box with the phone and you also won't need to buy one. Therefore you don't waste that included charger you never use. Therefore there's less e-waste.

In the past, you were forced to buy the phone with the charger and crappy earphones even if you didn't need or want them. Now, you have the option to buy them separately.

PaintNinja, 14 Oct 2020Then remember to buy a charger when you get your first ever... moreWhat are you talking about ? They remove charger and headphones from the iphone package and they rise up the price. You dont get new phone cheaper and iphones dont drop on price especially the brand new one that release in the end of a year. Even there 3-4 years old phones cost way too much as pretty much same price as latest Chinese flagship phones. And what e-waste your talking about when you need to buy a charger or when your battery die out and need to replace it that cost a lot for these apple products that is all e-waste. They probably even set in the phones poor quality batteries so you need to replace them so they can make more money. E-waste dont go anywhere if you have the charger in the box or not. Never mind that it's the most premium price phones on the market you pretty much dont get anything premium from it.

WhoCares, 14 Oct 2020I dont understand how it's less waste? Now everyone n... moreIt's less waste because unlike before - you only buy another charger if you need one - rather than being forced to buy a charger as part the price of buying a new phone and having it always included without the option of buying the phone with the charger separately.

It doesn't matter if you have an iPhone 5S or an iPhone 12; they all work with the same chargers (any USB-A or USB-C port with the appropriate cable). You can even fast charge the new iPhone 12 with a standardised USB-PD 2.0 charger, no requirements to use proprietary crap at all.

Let's not forget that the headphones are also no longer included and barely anyone seems to care about that... it's almost as if people don't need a new identical pair of earbuds with every new phone purchase(!)

sq2013, 14 Oct 2020You order a phone and that phone has a battery that needs t... moreIt's not complicated, they include a standard USB-C to Thunderbolt cable. If you already have a charger with a USB-C port or anything really with a USB-C port, it will work with that.

The phone's being offered at a lower price than when they included the charger and earphones in the box, now instead of being forced to buy yet another charger alongside every single phone even if you already have one, you now have the option to buy the phone without the charger included in the price.

If anything, they're giving you more choice by allowing you to buy a phone separately from the charger.

PaintNinja, 14 Oct 2020Just works out of the box? Bruh stock android 10 doesn'... moreYou order a phone and that phone has a battery that needs to be charged. Yet the seller doesn't include a charger for charging the phone. That's ridiculous. It's like selling a playstation with no mains plug. There's no defense for this minimalist approach. This is a trillion dollar company. They're utterly disgusting. They literally have no ethics. All that iphone users are to their customers are a license to print money. They simply don't care. Just squeeze the customer as hard as possible and take whatever falls out of their pockets.

I dont understand how it's less waste? Now everyone needs to fill their local landfills with what will become extinct soon chargers and buy yet another one. How is that less waste? It's a simple cash grab. Anyone who cant see that is falling victim the the "bionic", "neural", etc. nonsense

iOS Never Again, 14 Oct 2020No need to go through all those hassles. Android just work... moreJust works out of the box? Bruh stock android 10 doesn't even have an alarms app or weather or checklist/shopping list app by default (last checked about a year ago on a Nokia 8.1).

You're forced to pay for the included charger and headphones as part of the phone price, even if you don't need or want them. With this new approach from Apple, you only buy what you need and you save money on the new phone if you don't need or already have the otherwise included charger and headphones.

Having to buy a charger if you've never owned a modern smartphone, laptop or desktop before isn't a big deal. It's not 100 things, it's literally just one and that's only if you don't already own one that'll work (which chances are, you do).

No need to buy 100 different things extra to get basic things working.

Procco, 14 Oct 2020What if...it is my first Iphone and I dont have any usb-c p... moreYou can use a Lightning to USB-A cable and one of your USB-A chargers or sockets. It won't "fast charge" in the sense of USB-PD charging, but it will charge (and if it has a higher output than the old 5W standard then the phone will probably use it). So you don't have to buy a charger, but if you have no Apple devices at all you'll have to buy a different cable.

If you want a fast charger but don't want to reward Apple for this then any USB-PD (USB power delivery) compatible charger will do.

I'm at the other end: I have at least 4 USB-C chargers around the house, 3 of them based on the PD standard, plus the USB-C sockets on my laptop (and an unknown number of USB-A chargers). So the last thing I'd really need is yet another damned charger in the box, and hence for me this move actually works.

The whole point of this is that you only pay for what you need - the phones are actually cheaper than before so if you already have a charger (which, chances are you do) you save money on your next iPhone plus there's significantly less e-waste as you're not forced to buy and throw away stuff you don't need with your new phone purchase.

If you don't have a single USB-c port in your home (no modern desktop or laptop, no PS5, etc...) you could even just get a USB-a to -c adapter or just buy a damn charger. It's not like you're unable to buy anything else you need from your phone after you get the phone, the price of the charger has been discounted from the phone price now.

Wasn't there last charger like $50?
