16MP is so old school... My Note4 from 2014 did that...

For 2021 and 👆 I'd like to see 24MP output images as standard in the mobile industry...

Actually 64 MP sensor should have option for nona-bayer (binning to 7 MP). Any sensors above 45 MP should have the option for nona-bayer, as long as can binning to at least 5 MP

OmniVision makes great sensors. I wish more manufacturers used them.

Anonymous, 15 Oct 2020Smartphone lenses are usually sharper than DSLR kit lenses ... moreYou must be buying rubbish lenses because all my Nikon and Canon lenses were great , even wide open at 1.8 canon 50mm cheap prime, canon 50 f1.4 prime and sigma 105mm macro f2.8 prime , along with some quite cheap white canon lenses in the zoom ranges of f2.8 and f4 respectively

                      This is a scam.

Apple doesn't even use this sensor yet omnivision puts it in their advertising.

This sensor is HUGE! If someone thinks that this one will go to ultrawide or buget phones is a lunatic. This will be for main cameras (it has 8k) on high end devices. Maybe, in the end of 2021, on some high mid rangers, but over 600$.

                          Redmi should use this..
In their mid-range smartphones..just like they use sony & Samsung's lens

Surely Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro will have it...another flagship level camera sensor for Xiaomi, and possibly few competitors too...

Anonymous, 15 Oct 2020There is no "sensor can be used in wide and ultra wide... moreIt's about the complete package size. Pushing a tele lens on such a big sensor will make the entire module too big. So it's marketed with the intent that it will be used with "flatter" lens arrays, which usually means wide. Ultrawide has some of its own problems with distortion requiring more elements.
For selfies, you want to keep the notch/hole as small as possible.
All my points are invalid if the sensor is used inside a popup/flip module, as there is plenty of space to work with.
