Wonder when we can get a 24 core CPU to handle everything at full details.

koolguy, 20 Oct 2020Ok buddy I like you write all this nonsense and don't ... moreYou act like the smartphone or the x86 tech is everything in the world. But there are countless of other embedded controllers and they are used everywhere. And people have stopped paying premium for TI, Cypress or the others. You'll find 8051 derivatives from Asia in 90% of the products. And now with suppliers like LCSC it's going to get even worse, previously you had to go through some shady Alibaba sites to "request a quote".
The US started the uC tech revolution and they were the leaders for a long time, but it doesn't mean it will stay that way.
The EU is pretty much irrelevant for uC, apart from a few small-ish players like Infineon, Philips, ...

Again, I don't think you understand supply chain and market restrictions. If trading with US will financially hurt other countries, because they either cannot a) get their parts or b) sell their parts, they will just have to make new deals with someone else who is more advantageous.

The issue here is huge amounts of IP theft and difference of ideology.

The only reason I would consider this phone, is because the camera position and form. The 2 reasons I'm not considering it, is because of edged screen and lack of support on important Google apps. Nemid and mobilpay, requires true Google access. The 2 apps used for everything here.

It doesn't work exactly like that. The US has SOME patents and provide SOME tech, but that is all. Where they are the 'top dog' is that they have stringent trading agreements with other partners where they prohibit them from working with entities on the black list.

So, for companies in the EU for example, if they want to trade with US and have access to roughly 20-50% more sales, they have to stop trading with Iran and similar partners.

The thing is, the more restrictions the US puts, the more market becomes non-available for the neutral parties. If this goes on, there will be a tipping point where trading with the US will hurt their sales, instead of boosting them, so they will just drop US as a trading partner. In that case, it loses the 'top dog' position and will have to come crawling to the trading table.

What could be even worse in the scenario above, would be if the other countries started acting like US and banning them. In that case, a neutral party would have to choose between trading only with the US or trading with China, Russia, Middle-East, South America, ....

For the first time (and maybe last time?), Huawei is using a higher core count than Samsung for the same generation of Mali GPUs. However, the GPU score being on par with Exynos 1080 can't come close to competing the likes of Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 875 which has been like that forever. Still, running at lower frequencies means it'll be very efficient especially on 5nm node. No one does this maybe because of how expensive it is to make more cores.
