Not undertanding the point above about foldable or watch, there is no compatible foldable so wear a watch until that happens... its like in the past saying you refuse to use a copper based telephone as cellular is coming out in 5 years time... so you will suffer in the short term refusing to use working technology. On the point of why wear a watch... becuase it is faster and more convenient at any time to identify important or irritating messages in all situations without having to unlock your phone... that is undeniable. The only person that will wear a standard watch when this is available is either... 1. Trying to make an ego point 2. Not able to properly use technology in the right way in the right situations.

Samsung will bring it soon and Apple will start copying it.

You think it will be same as now? Tells me that you have zero visionary abilities.

Foldables are only in their second generation now, they'll be taking over regular smartphones as well.
The smartwatch is already a niche, it will be completely overtaken by foldables.

What could possibly go wrong there... People have watches with hardened glass all banged up like they were hit by a truck and you want to expose that fragile folding display tech. Good luck with that...

It would look cool, no doubt, but not practical at all. As a horology enthusiast I know the hell of watch damage anxiety. And I was wearing stainless steel/titanium and sapphire crystal watches for the most part. Having that ugly deep scratch anywhere is just the worst on an expensive watch. 300 something € Apple Watch that I have is nowhere as expensive as those and that single scratch is really annoying me. There is just no way these soft fragile folding screens will end on wrists unless somehow protected with real glass.

The smartwatch will be replaced by a full fledged arm band or wrist band type of a foldable with more screen real estate.
And I'll give you a hint, it won't be from the Apple ecosystem as innovation isn't their Forte.

Few days back, there were articles coming out where expert cardiologists have said that the features are also not intended to be used by people under age 22 or by people who have had previous atrial fibrillations or other arrhythmia.
