I like the phone, but it is very much a job trying to adjust.. thankfully, most of the apps I use don't need gms.

With ... moreRespectfully, you are able to do that on windows pc because justice department of USA went after Microsoft for doing similar practices in early 2000s.
Why don't people consider google search bar widget on home screen by default a bloatware, may be because it was the first bloatware pushed by OS maker and became the new normal.

well, it's set to Google by default because it is the best browser. At least we can change it. Just because it's there by default doesn't mean they have a monopoly. That's like saying that Apple has a monopoly on note-taking just because they ship iPhones with the Notes app preinstalled.

Anonymous, 21 Oct 2020but google owns android so isn't that okay that they s... moreAndroid is open-source, the issue here is that not only can you not remove the crap ware but even if you buy a Huawei phone or other non-GMS pre-loaded devices you are quickly gonna realize side-loading may not wok since the damn apps ask for GMS! The apps should at the very least when not detecting the GMS services offer alternate payment/cloud options rather than cease to function!!!

Social media you can easily do on a GMS free phone but the issue is Google offers the end user no option around it, buy a Huawei phone and you will quickly realize the best option is to follow a guide on Youtube on how to install GMS or use VMOS... :(

Oh right because you neglect to tell them properly how much of the data mined from the user to give better results? Or what about the Android monopoly? Nearly all apps needs GMS to work that is another monopoly that the Google Play store terms forces app makers to abide! Shame on you for nearly killing Firefox, DuckduckGO, Amazon(fire phone), Blackberry(BB10 devices) & Huawei(phones)!!! >:(

This is a case where I side with Google for once.
With my Windows 10 laptop, Microsoft Edge and Bing were made my default browsers. The first thing I did was to install Chrome and make Google my default search engine. It is that good. And I know that Google pays a lot of money to companies to actually make Google the default browser across platforms, which would NOT be the case if it could force its search engine for free.

There was a case a while back to force Microsoft not to bundle IE with their Windows OS because of the same reason as this. I think that was in Europe.

We need a new smartphone operating system. I'm sick of only two options for consumers and that's Android and iOS Duopoly. Consumers need something new, fresh and there is definitely market for a third or even fourth OS because the world is huge. We need a financially capable company with lots of will to pump money in a new OS, something that is not only refreshing but also better than Android and iOS.

It won't matter if they just fine Google for a tiny fraction of their revenue. They should also force Google not to let their apps bundled with Android, and let the user decide what's best for them.

Normally US doesn't care about anti competitive practices if it happens to other countries but since Trump fells the progressive nature of google company is a threat to his party in the future, he wouldn't want to waste any chances.
This is the chance for Trump to dismantle Google, and set new standard by removing Google domination of the internet and the strong hold on Android.
