Also I'm fairly certain Android market share is counted by all those shite cheap devices that cost peanuts and run Android, like all those generic no name phones for 50€ or 15€ cheap TV boxes with Android. It counts towards market share, but they literally influence nothing. It's just there and it's probably some prehistoric version like Android 6 Lolipop which seems to be very popular on those even in 2020... I had massive problems finding TV box that actually runs Nougat, the Android 7! instead Lolipop. Like one in a million version. And of course it's still stuck on the exact version it came with ages ago. Those market dominating devices? XD

Technology wise Android mobiles have taken deep lead over iPhones in most of the areas. iPhone loyal customer base in one country alone giving Apple enormous profits probably due to their arrangements with the carrier cartels there. Android OEMs fighting between themselves with competing tech and hence they have to be cutting edge as well as cost wise prudent. For example, in my place OnePlus 8 Pro 12 GB RAM /256 GB storage (spec wise superior or comparable to iPhone 12 Pro Max) is almost 1/3 of the price. You can easily upgrade every two years or 2 1/2 years for that price difference and get the latest tech...instead of stuck with older tech at far far higher price points

                  Just because android has 80% marketshare doensn't mean 4 in 5 people use android. It's probably split because iPhone users upgrade a lot less than android users because of the longer longetevity, thus the less amount "sold".

                    Apple needs to bring back ALU back ... we dont need wireless charging that much

Much easier to apply screen protectors. I know I have pretty difficult time applying any on my iPhone XR. Tried so many screen protectors that claim to have curved edges and they do on top, but on bottom where they contact display they are flat and overhang the curved edge. Looks ugly, dust tends to collect underneath and they tend to shatter faster when pressed on edges. With flat display, you can simply apply a flat screen protector without any gaps. Apple made a great decision when returning to flat display in this regard and in my opinion it also looks better. At least for me. Probably why they went shatter resistant path as scratches can now easily be prevented with screen protectors.

                          The answer, of course, is a flexible screen which is proof against shattering, covered with a screen protector which is less shatter resistant but more scratchproof. It is much better to replace a $3 screen protector when it shatters, than get a new screen.
                          Perhaps I am clumsy, I go through a screen protector a year, but I have not yet had a scratched or broken actual screen.

                            Limbo, 26 Oct 2020The answer is sapphire. It is just a little too expensive. And much, much too heavy. And not that shatter resistant. If you want a 300g phone with a slightly grey screen, aluminium oxide is your friend.

They don't need to copy anything from Apple as such, the leading gap is so wide even OonePlus,Samsung,Huawei, MI increasing mobile prices since they are confident that people won't go after iPhones inthe rest of the world except USA

                                still gonna put a tempered glass screen protector and a case on my mini. They seem to be more scratch resistant on paper, but can still scratch against random earth minerals (or so I've heard). I'm extremely clumsy with phones, so it's gonna be hitting the ground often.

                                  Hello Life, 26 Oct 2020This new glass is more scratch resistant as well It is not. It's either more shatter resistant and less scratch resistant or less shatter resistant and more scratch resistant. I don't think there is any way bypassing this as it goes down to crystalline structure of the material. You can find a better balance, but you'll always be trading one for another when going past that middle point.

                                  Also MKBHD got a scratch on his review model which makes me believe it's more shatter resistant but less scratch... I think Apple aims at clumsy people who shatter displays and make it unusable opposed to scratches that are ugly and annoying but still works fine. Especially since I've seen A LOT of smashed iPhones and people just continue to use them. In fact I see a lot of people have such phones in general. I don't know what they are doing with phones to be honest...

                                        I'd personally take scratch resistance over shatter resistance any time. I've never shattered, cracked or chipped a single display. But I do have really annoying micro or tiny scratches that always happen literally out of nowhere and then drive me insane the entire time. Like with my Apple Watch 5. I've bumped it seveal times at metal things or against walls and nothing. And then one day I look for time and there is this 3mm long scratch at the bottom of display. Like wtf, when did that happen?! In all honesty, synthetic sapphire isn't even that expensive yet almost impossible to scratch. I have several Automatic watches with real sapphire and all of them are pristine. Zero micro scratches even. That I want on phones.
