A new mobile OS coming! Let's hope that this won't wind up like Windows Mobile, BlackBerry OS, Tizen, or Baidu happened---in the dust with few developers interested. I'm cautiously hopeful. Let's see if Huawei can make a go of it.

Huawei may be looking at a software over hardware focus over next few years as they soon won't be able to produce there Kirin Processors until they find there own solution and it also sounds like everyone else will be prohibited from supplying them...... I can see Huawei really pushing Harmony OS next year in China where Google is extremely irrelevant and by convincing the likes of Oppo, Xiaomi etc to use it they could become the Chinese Google which would grow both there App Gallery and OS to eventually be successful globally......

Harmony OS will be a hit on China that's for sure and probably in a few developing markets, but a poor market share in India, Europe and absolute zero in Japan and the US - Canada.

Anonymous, 28 Oct 2020There's a meaningful difference in this case. This OS ... moreYou could do that on Fire OS i know because i have a Fire tablet and i can side load any android app, and also you can do that in Tizen and Sailfish OS with some tweaks. So, Harmony OS is not that different.

Sure, US controls good proportion of tech patent, regardless what lurks behind the curtain, it still an open market that believe it or not, some Chinese firms still taking advantage of either than the US targeted enterprise aka Huawei.... But can you say the same with Huawei and its backing state? LOL, you'll be lucked if your social criticism post 'just' getting banned.

Technoprat, 28 Oct 2020This Harmony Os is going to be an epic failure. Even global... moreNo, that's not true. The world needs a new OS on mobile. You know, a new OS means a new ecosystem. All the competition for application developers to earn money and achieve fame, is starting all over again. Well, maybe not all. Like playing a game, you can restart the game without losing the items you bought before.
Cell phones are a primary human need and it is big business. In 2018 the iPhone recorded the highest revenue of US $ 265.6 billion, Alphabet was recorded to have pocketed US $ 136.8 billion. The total is US $ 400 billion. Dude, I admit I did bad math. But, God damn it! If the island of Bali was sold, that much money would be sufficient to buy the island of Bali. That doesn't include income from other big companies, FB, Amazon, etc. And why is it that only the US receives giant money every year, while most other countries are just spectators? It's because the US controls the system. Patents, propaganda, hegemony. The emergence of a new OS - assuming this OS is successful - is a threat to the US, because it means the possibility of moving money to many countries. They do not want the past to repeat itself, where at that time many European companies were successful. It is better for US to share a little cake with China as long as US can get a bigger portion.
The failure of Samsung with Tizen and Microsoft with WP is that there are few vendors who adopt the OS. If Harmony OS is free, many cellphone vendors are involved and friendly to application developers (free of charge, if applicable), it is not impossible that this OS will be successful. This new OS concerns the economic future of many countries. Obviously, Huawei will have political support from many countries, but it does need strong communication between governments. We will see later.

This Harmony Os is going to be an epic failure. Even globally accepted vendors like Samsung could not establish their mobile OS. Bada and Tizen failed.... Windows Mobile failed.

I don't know why this would be bought outside China. Many people don't like Chinese products for their shady privacy record. It will fail.

Wait. So the Harmony OS will be launcher over Android? Not full new OS ?
In both options there will be same problem with the apps.
current situation is also no apps (most of them) what new and better will come with android launcher? If you have no apps, go from scratch
