AnonD-58527, 03 Aug 2012277% Windows Phone grow. Start closing the Google Play sto... moreHahaha! Good sarcasm!
If it's not then you're one deluded champ!
To put this 277% yearly growth into right perspective:
Windows Phone has been sold on 3.8 million smartphones in one year, while Android has been sold on 56.6 million smartphones. Android sold 52.8 million more smartphones than WP.
Android sold 144.657 smartphones per day while WP sold 10.410 per day, that's 2 droids every second vs. 1 WP every 8 seconds.
And still Android's growth is still going strong (110% yearly growth).
Windows Phone has A LOT of catching up to do, so Google Play ain't going anywhere!
We will see what Microsoft has cooked up for us with WP8 and if the market loves it.

I believe Win will make huge inroads in the tablet arena, simply destroying Android there. If this happens, there may be a halo effect that may transfer over to the mobile phone sector as well.

Anonymous, 04 Aug 2012Windows Phone will catch up with Android. Check the Windows... moreGood luck to Windows, although with Microsoft making WP7 models obsolete, I wonder what the future holds for WP8 users. I'm thinking of getting a Nokia 710 because they're going for around £110-130 used.

As for some of your points:

      1. All WP8 phones will have OTA software updates.
      - So do most Android phones, their update schedule is just ridiculous. I never got OTA update announcements on my Samsung S1 and S2 but do on my HTC One X and Flyer.

      3. Less fragmentation for developers and users. All WP run on Snapdragon SoC only for compatibility and optimized performance. Whereas on Android you have way too many SoCs and graphics chips that produce more crashes and incompatibility issues especially in games.
      - Agreed, too much fragmentation which was only made WORSE by ICS, not better as planned.

      4. Windows Phone and their apps look better than Android and iOS. Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, already said that.
      - That's subjective, but I agree that Windows for Mobile looks awesome. Steve Wozniak thinks it's better than Android? Yeah I recall he's a huge fan of Android... ;)

Personally, I doubt WP will break the dominance of Android if Apple can't, but I would LOVE to see WP taking sales away from Apple...

            1. All WP8 phones will have OTA software updates. You don't need Nexus phones to run the latest software.
            2. Microsoft Office

It's quite interesting that there is such a large growth from Windows- When Sony Ericsson had Windows software, particularly from a business perspective, it was quite enticing.. It will be interesting to see how Nokia develops with Windows in the next 5 years! (It is Nokia that are planning to introduce Windows isn't it? :\)

As systems go, I'm a massive fan of Android, and long may it continue :)

I get the feeling that the author of this article likes Apple a lot as he does not mention the 16.4% market share of iOS unlike others and instead states a 28% increase of iphones shipment - talk about putting a postive spin on iOS.

                      => 16.4% market share, that's terrible!

WP's growth number is amazing. 277%, it's almost 3 times from last year.
I guess Microsoft's strategy is working (for others). I'd still prefer Android though.
When WP is in the top 3, it'll be an interesting match. Let's see what happens next.

who says android is cheap? actually android is neither cheap nor costly. it is free and open source. android phone cost depends upon the hardware used inside. if u buy galaxy y it will cost (acc. to my country) $125 and galaxy s3(32gb-international) for $830 (incl tax). so you can guess the difference experience in between these two droids.
