Apple iPhone 12 Pro Ceramic Shield scratches like regular glass, torture test finds

28 October 2020
Ceramic Shield is harder to break during a fall, not more scratch resistant.

I bought a very expensive Iphone14 Pro 256GB to replace my iPhone 13 Pro 128GB and guess what the first week without a screen protector to enjoy a little bit the Iphone before sticking a magnet finger print cover and a chunky back cover , I was extra careful not mixing with keys, coins etc (all the thing apple makes in the commercials) and a regular mail nail was enough to make a air scratch that didn't made possible to repair and it was always visible in any angle. Result, I sold the Pro14 and bought back a iPhone Pro 13 256GB new but with a front and back cover. So sad, a very expensive thing in these crazy days we live, what is happening with this guys. At least drop the fucking price!

I am so disappointed with my iPhone 12 touch screen. It scratches with just a finger nail. I had my iPhone 8 for 3 years and turned it in literally without even one scratch. I have been so very careful with my new iPhone 12 and I have scratches down at the bottom where only my finger nail has touched. I have seen and heard many, many others say the exact same thing. How could Apple have overlooked such an important part of their production, to give us a lesser product yet charge us such an enormous amount of money. I really regret buying this phone and have spoken to others who say the same thing. Apple you really dropped the ball on this one.

Think about what you're doing before complaining that you were dumb. This isn't a problem for normal users either, because they don't typically stack phones on top of each other (due to only have one daily use phone, like 99.9% of the phone using population) UHHH DUHH

But I was impressed with the bend test. That phone will rip your pocket before it even flexes.

Is the scratch r... moreIt's left these fairly deep, translucent grooves - not thin, only visible in the light scratches that screens gather over time. The exact same things happened to our iPhone 11 series after we left them in our tills (stacked on top of each other).

              I've Googled to try and find you a picture to do it justice to the kinds of marks, and to my surprise the most accurate picture was from an article on Tom's Guide about customers seeing the exact same scratches on their iPhone 11/Pro/Pro Max. Here's the article;

              https://www.tomsguide.com/news/iphone-11-owners-angry-over-easily-scratched-screens

I don't know what these type of marks are, but as far as I've seen, they're exclusive to iPhones.

Did you guys know, for gorilla glass the higher the version, the more shatter proof it gets? But it also loses its scratch resistance.

Version 4 for instance, on the Samsung's Note 4 is highly resistant to scratch, but if you drop it.. high chance to shatter. But as 5 is released, the scratch gets worse.

So something to keep in mind as the versions increases it loses hardness but gain toughness. Buy that screen protector.

That's why diamond is the harder material commonly found, but also really easy to break.

Also you should base your logic on physics. Here is the same as saying earth is flat because you see it flat.

You want an example? Plastic. Very resistant to shattering, extremely prone to scratches.

Want the opposite? Sapphire glass. Very resistant to scratches, extremely prone to shattering.

Some people who are whining "UhH Apple is trying to cheat customers it's not a real ceramickk" do not seem to understand that this technology infuses ceramic crystals into the molecular structures of the glass and improves the shatter, or in other words, shock resistance, but will not increase the hardness of the glass itself.

I was wrong for thinking that it's only a glass panel coated by a thin layer of ceramic, but Apple never explained in that way and I guess everything makes sense now.

Until something like transparent ceramic exists and good for mass production in smartphones, glass is glass and any form of silicon will scratch at 6, with deeper grooves at 7 and it will break.

Apple using hyperbole fake marketing labels to brainwash people into thinking it's quality. Classic Apple.
They should have called the cheap paint job on the frame something futuristic, indestructible.
