Snapdragon 875 CPU beats Kirin 9000 in latest benchmark, but the GPUs are evenly matched

        Cpu , Gpu overclocked to 25% boost, I have extreme options on the battery showing, above performance.
        100% cpu, gpu idles at 60% threshold, it's faster than S875+,
        No throttling at all
        70fps in games, yes it gets very hot at 38 degrees, battery is 2 hours less than normal.
        OMG , love this phone so much better know.
        You F ooools are on standard c rappp
        Gpu is at 1200mhz than it was on 900mhz before.
        I don't give rat's about phone heating up or battery dying I have a powerbank

All this e-peen measuring in chips is mostly useless unless it has a definitive purpose because most smartphones have no active cooling so top performance is less important than power management which has always been kirin focus. Adreno gpu patches is arguably a bigger deal because it means it can optimize games to have the required amount of power without throttling or heating up.

                It definitely throttles, and it tries to compensate by frequently dropping the performance to lower levels to prevent overheating.
                When such approach is simulated in real life, it would be disastrous for gaming, as the phone will constantly freeze and then goes back to normal, then drops frame again, and so on and so forth. Compare that to the SD865's approach, which consistently delivers a smooth overall experience even if not as many frames as the Kirin 9000, but at least heat is well under controlled.
                Huawei knows that such configuration cannot be sustained for long periods of time, and they need to bottleneck it somehow to avoid issues. There's no cooling solution that can completely handle its energy consumption.

                Qualcomm will likely be having the same level of peak performance, but they'll do it much more consistently and with significantly less heat to start with.
                AMD GPUs are simply ahead of ARM's, which is why Samsung decided to leave them for good and acquire AMD next year for their future Exynos SoCs.

                  [deleted post]A13 boosts up its frequency to ridiculous level for a very short period of time then goes under a normal performance mode which is very power efficient yet still extremely high-performing state. I guess it works for tasks that requires graphics power for a relatively short period of time (e.g. Any non-gaming 3rd party apps that use Metal API for acceleration, such as image editor apps). I believe the thermal is perfectly fine, but obviously isn't capable of sustaining 6W of GPU power draw for a prolonged period of time.

Since the... moreUsually, more cores with lower clock speed > less cores with higher clock speed in mobile graphics. It has been exactly the case when you compare previous gen. Exynos & Kirin SoCs, Exynos always had higher MP configuration for GPU and always performed better than Kirin while also drawing less power. With that said, no-one can make a solid statement about Kirin 9000 as for now as its GPU core frequency isn't disclosed.

Take a look at Kirin 9000 for instance, some leaks suggest that it is quite power-hungry, but GSMArena's test shows that it is indeed capable of maintaining high performance for a very long period of time, as long as it's set to Performance Mode (I believe this mode will be recommended to users and possibly automatically activated when playing games). We should hold off from making any strong assumptions until AnandTech runs through their own performance/thermal analysis on the SoC.

                        Which means the battery hasn't been tested for either modes. Only performance has been tested. Also, I am guessing that the performance was for shorter bursts. Like some of the Exynos. They get hot quite quickly and cannot sustain performance over longer periods. Also, it affects both performance as well as battery life, in anything over a few minutes.

                            Maybe if Biden wins, Huawei will take the initiative and reach out. They might be able to convince the US to give them like 10 years to develop an in-house GPU solution but to use TSMC in between that time.

                                Well kirin is breaking the tradition here 😮 can head to head with newest snapdragon 😮

                                but remember its power hungry and so peak performance maybe better in snapdragon

                                Also if you look at other benchmark in gsmarena it only head to head with 865+ in other benchmark so we can take this we a grain of salt
