TEtech, 11 Nov 2020they cant produce 7/5nm chipsets so they will have to I think they'd rather source from MediaTek than a US company like Qualcomm.

          This needs to happen.

I dont care about their 5G tech, (US will still ban it because couldnt catch up, even Biden as president), but things looking getting good on their smartphone division. License are slowly getting approval, I sense they will get back GMS soon.

Strictly using Qualcomm chipset (US afraid of backdoors with in-house Kirin, still no proof), lift up all the ban for their smartphone, a win-win situation for both US & China. Soften the realtionship instead going for a war.

If this is real, count me in. I have been long waiting for a Snapdragon-powered Huawei phones.

Midiatek does not have powerful enough processors yet but i read that they will release two 5 or 6 nm processors with cortex A78, those processors will be like a kirin 9000, maybe a little better. Huawei obviously would prefer to have kirin back because it will be easier to run harmony os.

I don't think Huawei will buy from Qualcomm. They will produce their own silicon somehow.

It's not like Intel chips where there are retail and OEM units, in this case it's all OEM.

Anonymous, 11 Nov 2020P50 will Yeah, that's what i meant to say. It's hard to keep track of model numbers of dozens of different brands.

If P50 Pro does run SD875, then i think most users would be happy with that.

Just a question: can't US chip makers just sell their chips to e.g. a European or Asian company and then that company could sell the chips to Huawei? This way US companies wouldn't do business directly with Huawei. Or is this bot possible or maybe too expensive?

When Huawei gets to make chips at their own factory maybe they won't be named Kirin at all. As is Kirin (Qilin) which is an east Asian mythological creature, I won't be surpised if the new chips will be called Phoenix (Fenghuang), which according to tradition is a mark of a new era.
