What industry standards? Other Android OEMs provide two major OS updates. Rubbish statement.

How come you're not all defending this like you do in every single iPhone thread where you're all so loud how 5 years of updates there is all BS and how Android is so much better by itself. Where are all of you now, who keep saying how updates on Android don't matter because it's better than god itself or something? Android support in general is trash whether it's just 1 year or 3 years. It's all just NOT enough. All devices should have 5 years of software support as standard with no excuses, so user basically shouldn't worry about this side of things. Being a lazy vendor and not supporting them for this long just because you churn out 50 new phones every week shouldn't be end user's problem. It's a problem YOU, phone vendors created and what it really is is literally planned obsolescence forcing users to buy new phones just to get latest OS features and security updates. I'm just shocked people are not outraged over it more when it's just "up to" 3 years on phones that cost "up to" 1000€ and beyond. 3 years is nothing. Most users are paying off expensive phones for 2 years and then it's just 1 more year extra and then it's done, you're stuck with outdated OS. And that's the best case scenario with the best Androids. People who buy cheaper devices like these Nords are generally users who stick with devices the longest because they are tight on budget and they get punished the most for it. I hope this will be a monumental flop for OnePlus and I hope this practice will die in shame and fire. But I know people will just gobble it up and it'll be huge success and everyone will follow with this nonsense. I just know it'll happen. Like it's not bad enough as it is already with Android and its arbitrary long term support...

that's just beyond me how come companies axe their own branding image.
good I bought OP Nord 5G 12/256gb not the other Nord variants, even that for $365.
happy with camera results, front cam is just okay.

Hmm now we know why carl left...

"The OnePlus Nord N10 5G and N100 smartphones are rather generic if you take away the OnePlus branding and Oxygen OS. With the news of the company shortening their new phones’ lifespan, it could alienate OnePlus die-hards to search elsewhere."

                This, a 100%.

Done with BBKPlus. Gonna go search elsewhere.

OnePlus has garnered enough fans for their brand, and they can just bribe tech tubers with free review units. They can just do whatever they want, and the fans and youtubers will still praise them regardless.

Wtf is OnePlus doing rn. One Android version update. At least Xiaomi/Redmi gives an Android version update and 2/3 MIUI version updates for their phones which comes with new features for their budget-midrange phones, that have a lower price. Nord N10 shld be getting at least 2 Android updates. They're destroying their own brand image now.

Please don’t buy these sub par devices. Go for the Nord or any other smartphone from any other OEM.

Let’s collectively discourage this behavior by voting with our wallets

Following Xiaomi's step eh? Bad idea OnePlus. At least you can keep your bootloader unlocked and be ready to install custom rom whenever this happens.

One version upgrade should be lucky enough. Plenty of Oppo and Vivo owners are not seeing any version upgrades at all.

But of course, we will continue seeing tech tubers and sites highlighting OnePlus, tricking people into thinking that’s it’s a good buy.

Oh...here we go. At least OnePlus has the balls to say it.

At least my dad doesn't care when I get him the N10.

Oneplus is axing their own brand image. The process to survive is simple. Make one premium phone with best of everything and make one with flagship level chip but downscale every other thing to match the half price. How hard is that?

Anonymous, 12 Nov 2020OP has fallen from "budget flagship killer" to &q... moreAnd yet one that commands a premium for, OS aside, just another China phone.

I went from OnePlus to Honor and then to Samsung with my last three purchases. If I'm going to take a shot on a China phone not being bricked by geopolitics, I'll just get a Realme or Redmi. More likely I'll stick with Samsung, or maybe return to Sony (last phone of theirs I had was the Xperia Z Ultra). Perhaps Asus, though their phones are rather less available here - if an ROG Phone 3 pops up used next year when my carrier deal ends I suspect I'll jump on that.

Bah...bad move. Like the article says, people are expecting support from Oneplus because of the name but they won't get it. It'll backfire probably.

Relative to the specs and pricing from the competition I'd really expect that OP would compensate via software update support but now I think the redeeming point of these phones just got dissipated. These should be DOA phones but I guess not all people were well informed and just buy these because it's Oneplus.

                                      No surprise Carl Pei left

Hehehe this is nothing new to a BBK phone.

OPPO VIVO do this without informing ( no software updates) and One+ does it by informing it's buyers.

But crux is BBK phones will not get updates even if you pay more(compared to other makes)

Micromax should take this as an opportunity.
