I work in a Philippine company that requires everyone to leave their phones in "pigeon holes" before entering the work area. You see all sorts of phones - about 200. The statistics in the article is just about right. There were a few Nokia WP phones when the local telco started offering them. Of course everyone knew the owners since they were curious about the new phones. Well about 3-4 months these owners returned to android and iPhone. No more Nokia except some old feature phones.

Android keeps groing at a phenomenal rate and shows no signs of slowing down. Our biggest share of sales is certainly android in our store, and throughout our company. Apple have had their hayday, they now have to fight for the right to be the best. And they arent winning that fight. Windows phone has only grown because its market share was near 0% Hard to shrink from there. Its not a contender yet, hopefully one day as it gives my customers one more option worth considering,,, but not yet...

Does anyone else find it remarkable that Nokia's dead platform Symbian still ships a similar number of units to Apple (18.2 million v 20.4 million)? Despite that, they have a fraction of the market share so they must be selling a lot of phones at something like a tenth of the price of Apple's phones. This is not accounted for by the rock bottom priced AT&T phones because they were windows phones.

thats bad news : quality products are generated because of competition thats how the market of goods work. If there are only 2 players in smartphone market quality will not get better .
the consumers will have better quality products when there is more competition.
