The Sony Xperia 10 III will have a Snapdragon 690 chipset, Sony's first 5G mid-ranger

18 November 2020
The Xperia 10 II Plus was allegedly canceled so that Sony could focus on 5G. After Sony flagships went 5G this year, the 10-series will follow in 2021.

I'm guessing a 699 USD price tag here.

As for Periscope, you may be right but it wouldn't surprise me if they decide to limit 8K to ONLY the main cam with barely any zoom. Lens being limited in certain modes have certainly happened.

For me i think they should focus on the main camera and ultra-wide. Main camera getting a bigger sensor like the custom 1/1.43" 48MP sensor (the Oppo Find X2 Pro to me had the best colour) except its a 12MP with large pixels for low light and the ultrawide using a flagship sensor (maybe the main sensor in 1ii) put behind an ultrawide lens. My problem with telephoto is that there's way too much range. What I mean by that is 3x zoom isn't enough but something like 10x might be too much. Seeing how the S20 handled zoom with a 3x zoom it's not far enough and the quality just isn't worth it compared to it's main 12MP camera especially at night.

My main takeaway from smartphone cameras now is that only for zoom would I rather go with an actual camera. Phones do great in other aspects especially while being compact but in zoom they've got a long way to go with the size limit. Unless they manage to develop a really sharp lens to pair with Samsung's 250MP for a very clear digital zoom crop.

DrummerAJL, 19 Nov 2020I thought the sony's naming before the xperia 1 2 was ... moreSony Alpha lineup naming nomenclature: (example A7)

          Xperia 1 II

          .
I mean, the new-gen Xperia borrowed almost everything from their Alpha/RX lineup goods as the Alpha team was brought to the Xperia last year. That's including the naming scheme both Alpha & RX has utilized for a long time, with the formatting like this below:
"Sony (Alpha/RX/Xperia) (Product Name) Mark (Generation)"
Unless you're unfamiliar with Sony Alpha or other Sony products using that naming scheme in the beginning, they're essentially the same for Xperia. I'm aware, this type is not usual for smartphones to use this naming scheme, but since the Alpha team was involved, this was expected, especially among Xperia fans.

I thought the sony's naming before the xperia 1 2 was bad, but now we have xperia 10 3? Sony is like the only one that I don't understand with naming.

I had Z3. It was a legend phone. Really premium and stylish. My suggestion for you is go for Sony if you can afford to buy flagship one. Otherwise go for Xiaomi. It is the best value for money.

                - Battery is told to be 4500-5000.

                - bit smaller bezels

They are not going back to LCD. Sharp no longer makes oled for mobile because they could not have clients enough to keep it working. They are buying the LCD factory of Japan Display, as Jdi is shifting efforts to oled so they can supply iphones in the future.

There was a prototype with periscope/Hoya lenses in 2019. Hexa cam setup. Another one had monochrome wide. Both killed already.

Cinema Pro would not work well with periscope, very long FL would require small 8Mp 1/4" , which cannot do 4K. Also, subject would be too close.

AnonD-731363, 18 Nov 2020Well sometimes happens. Even Meizu Zero failed to impress... moreMeizu Zero at least was a small bad idea, because if a bad update bricks the phone, you cant plug on computer to do software repair.

Mix Alpha had less than zero benefit.
Wrap up the screen around the body just to remove front cam?
You cant hold the phone without touching the screen.
You cannot protect the screen properly because of the 180 degrees side.
Should have never be tagged more than $1600.

Most stupid idea ever in smartphone history.

It is funny how you want non-chinese companies to sell for same price chinese charge when their costs are much higher.
Hope in 2021, Xiaomi gets UFS from Samsung, because the 3.1 used by K30 Pro is slower than the 3.0 used by Xperia, Galaxy Note and OP8 Pro.

If mi 10 pro had IP68, they would charge €1300.

Xiaomi has none, Oppo only has 4 (Reno A, R15 Pro, Find X2 Pro, Find X2), and so on. Most Chinese companies you adore, except Huawei, barely had their phones with water-resistant features, a big no-no in Sony's home country.

Like you never know about market segmentation at all and its requirements, considering when Sony already moves into a very-niche market than ever with their loyal fanbase, and yet you still bother to poke at Sony, like they ever tried to harm you in real life... Some sacrifice is needed if you want something. I would rather pay a second-hand XZ Premium at $200-300 than paying for a new mid-ranger honestly...

That'd be the Quinfecta of cameras without adding unnecessary lens (remember the LG Wing with TWO Ultrawide cams?).

To me, if the 1 mark iii was just the mark ii with WAY more 5G bands, the remaining LTE band 71, and a 5,000 mAH battery, I'd get it in a heartbeat. Throw in the above camera configuration, boomier speakers, and switch to Sharp IGZO panels (from their current Samsung panels), I'd scream and be the first in line for pre-orders.

Anonymous, 18 Nov 2020What do you mean by spec warriors?of the phone has a weak c... moreWell, just saying, around 50% to 60% of Japanese mid-rangers smartphones most of the time equipped with modest chipsets instead of powerful ones. This is due to Japanese culture and habits in using smartphones. They rarely, even never using their phones for heavy tasks and gaming. They usually cater to those tasks to powerful PC/laptop or consoles they have (ex: PS4, Switch). And even they want a powerful phone, they go full-blown flagships like Xperia 1 II / 5 II, Sharp Aquos Zero 2, or even iPhones. I saw that by myself during my trip to Japan.

And knowing Japanese sticks with its tradition very well in every aspect, Sony has to follow as a Japanese company, and they generalized its Japanese tradition to their phones as well. This is why Sony equipped Xperia 10 II with modest Snapdragon 665 instead of more powerful 675 or 730/730G. There's always a reason for that. To meet Japanese requirements. They rather have an IP68 certification than a faster chipset. Smartphone companies without IP certificate-phone would bust there because their lineup is almost absent on IP certificate phones there. Unless capped reasons like 5G mid-rangers chipsets pre-750/690 period (with 765/765G) need to be in, they usually have gone that way.

I have a bad Feeling about XPERIA 1 III. Hope I am proven wrong. But I have a strong feeling that SONY is once again going to try something different and in that process going to compromise on lot many areas and ruin the experience. I really hope I am wrong. But as soon as I head about more than 4 camera setup I felt like SONY is again planning to sway away from the Path that XPERIA 1 II laid for it. This is not first time SONY ruined their lineup by trying to do different and over improvise on what was Previously considered to be Master piece of that Time.
